约克大学数学系招收博士研究生
About the Programme
The Department of Mathematics at York offers a thriving research environment in which to study for a PhD or MPhil. We combine world-class mathematical and interdisciplinary research with high-quality teaching. We place particular emphasis on a personal approach and a friendly atmosphere within our vibrant academic community.
We’re a UK top 20 research department according to the Times Higher Education’s ranking of the latest REF results (2021). Also 100% of our research is rated as 4* or 3* in the latest REF results (2021).
The PhD and MPhil are research degrees by thesis. You'll be supported by a personal supervisor and a Thesis Advisory Panel; a minimum of three academic members of staff. Our staff offer supervision in a wide range of disciplines and will help guide your studies.
Many of our research groups belong to UK or EU research networks, giving you access to academics from around the world. The groups have expertise in subjects including:
• Algebra
• Geometry and Analysis
• Mathematical Biology and Chemistry
• Mathematical Finance and Stochastic Analysis
• Mathematical Physics
• Number Theory
• Quantum Information
• Statistics and Probability
Throughout your research, we provide feedback on your training and development through regular meetings involving supervisors and other academics.
Your first year will normally include training with a UK-wide cohort of students through the EPSRC-funded MAGIC and APTS consortia, or similar. This training is flexible and can be adapted to your needs; it might extend into your second year as appropriate.
Alongside your studies, you can learn directly from international scholars at our weekly research seminars and more general departmental colloquia, and find out about the work of your peers at student-only seminars and reading groups.
