About the Project
Animals face many challenges in the environments where they live. For example, to survive heatwaves animals need to avoid hyperthermia and the excessive water loss caused by high temperature. On the other hand, cold winter temperatures reduce food availability and animals must use strategies such as hibernation to save energy. Consequently, changes in weather and climate can affect how animals go about their daily lives over different time and spatial scales. We are investigating the physiology, ecology and behaviour of vertebrate wildlife to better understand how they face and overcome environmental challenges.
The candidate will use a combination of field and laboratory techniques to investigate research questions focussing on the adaptations used by vertebrate wildlife to persist in their native habitats.
SDG 15: Life on land
The candidate will have strong interest in animal ecology, physiology and/or behaviour.
Programme start date: 1st October 2023
