Project description

The PhD project involves analytics with liquid chromatography mass spectrometry metabolomics applications conducted on various different sample matrices originating from plant-based raw materials and fermented foods as well as human dietary interventions conducted with the fermented products. The overall objective is to understand the molecular mechanisms related to health-beneficial effects of fermented foods. An essential component of the PhD project is to conduct food fermentation trials to assess the impact of fermenting microbial strains or consortia on various plant/food derived compounds that might contribute to human health-related bioactivities.

Selection criteria

We are primarily searching for a doctoral researcher or a project researcher. In case the selected candidate is finalizing the Master, the job title will be research assistant until the degree has been obtained.

MSc degree in Chemistry, Food Chemistry, Biochemistry, or from a related field

The successful candidate should have earlier experience on mass spectrometry analyses, as well as on microbiological laboratory methods and earlier experience on food fermenting microbes and/or gut microbiota is regarded as benefit

Excellent spoken and written English is required for the position
