Unit 5 Writing: A report on my future

Lesson Type: Writing

Learning Objectives:

By the end of the lesson, students are expected to

1) use simple future tense to describe the possible future job and dream;

2) write short-term and long-term plans according to one’s weakness and dream with “have to”;

3) be aware that working hard is the key to bridging the gap between the reality and the dream.

Teaching Focus

Guiding students to write a report on their future from 3 aspects, reality and dream, advantages and disadvantages, plan.

Learning difficulties:Students might have difficulty in writing out suitable character and necessary skills for their dream jobs.

Lead-in

1. Sing “Be what you wanna be” in chorus

2. Have a free Talk about the dream jobs

3. Watch a video clip about Time Capsule

To elicit the topic.

To get students prepared for writing a report on the future for the Time Capsule.

Reading

1. Read the 2 pictures and predict what Alice would like to be.

2. Scan the text and find out Alice’s possible future jobs and her dream.

3. Scan the text and find out Alice’ strength and weakness.

4. Scan the text and find out what Alice has to do to realize her dream.

5. Skim the text and match the pictures with the headings.

6. Retell the text with the help of 4 pictures or the notes on the blackboard.

7. Do further thinking:

1Why does Alice think she will possibly be a teacher?

2What makes her possibly be a policewoman?

3What does Alice have to do

To guide students to predict with the help of the pictures before reading.

 

 

 

 

To help students make a logical outline of the report.

 

 

To guide students to think of possible reasons that make Alice a policewoman based on her character.

 

 

To encourage students to think of suitable character and necessary skills for a doctor.

1. Make an outline of the report

2. Write a report on students’ own future based on the outline

Assignments

1. Polish your report on your future.

2. Watch the cartoon and answer the questions .
