About the project
PhD and Master positions in September 2023 are available in the Yang Lab led by Dr. Tianxi Yang in the Faculty of Land and Food Systems at the University of British Columbia (UBC). Yang Lab’s research lies at the intersection of food science, analytical science and nanomaterial-polymer science to develop novel analytical tools and advanced materials, with the goal of improving the safety, sustainability, and resiliency of agri-food systems. Currently, Yang Lab’s research is focused on three major areas: (1) Nanosensors in food, (2) Nano-enabled agriculture, and (3) Sustainable food packaging. Yang Lab details:

Qualifications
• Master's or Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Analytical Chemistry, Material Science or other related fields.
• Previous research experience includes, but is not limited to analytical chemistry, food analysis, food safety, food packaging, spectroscopy, nanomaterials, biopolymer, DNA/RNA nanotechnology, polymer engineering, stimuli-responsive materials, microbiology, machine learning.
• Students with publication records/research experience are preferred. Be highly motivated, organized, and passionate about research.

The Yang group is looking for highly motivated graduate student researchers (PhD and Master) and visiting students.
Prospective graduate students should contact Dr. Yang first. Ultimately, students must also apply for graduate studies in the Faculty of Lands and Food Systems at UBC. Please email Dr. Yang at tianxi.yang@ubc.ca with the following documents. Review will begin immediately, and applications are open until all positions are filled.

• Detailed CV (describing your education with GPA, research experience, publication records if any, TOEFL or IELTS scores if you have, etc.)

Note: International prospective students who have secured extramural funding for PhD and Master are encouraged to apply and will be given priorities. Additionally, for PhD positions, 2 fully funded PhD and 2 CSC funded PhD positions would be available. Please indicate in the email if you are interested in applying for a CSC PhD scholarship.
