PhD Researcher in the Field of Software Testing and Testing Education
The Research Centre for Information Systems Engineering (LIRIS) at KU Leuven (Brussels & Leuven, Belgium) is a dynamic and pleasant research group that is actively involved in scientific research at the highest international level in different domains such as model-driven engineering, conceptual modelling, business process management, learning analytics, data science, and process mining. Research projects in these domains are focusing both on fundamental research as on applied research. For more information, check our group's home page.
Project
Testing software is very important, but not done well, resulting in problematic and erroneous software applications. The underlying cause is a mismatch between what is needed in industry, the learning needs of students and the way testing is currently being taught in higher education courses. The ENACTEST research project will investigate cognitive models for learning testing, industry needs for testing skills and knowledge transfer processes. The goal is to design and develop didactic tools and learning capsules for teaching testing skills that consider the cognitive models of students and the industry needs, and to validate the effectiveness of these tools and learning capsules through experimental research.
As a PhD-student, you are expected, next to your main research tasks, to participate in seminars and conferences, to enrol in the PhD program of the Faculty of Economics and Business, and to perform a limited amount of educational duties (e.g. supervising student master's thesis). For more information about the PhD programme in Business Economics, see here. Furthermore, as the ENACTEST project is a European project, you will participate to yearly consortium meetings at different locations in Europe.
Profile
Candidates preferably have a master's degree in Business and Information Systems Engineering, Business Engineering, Informatics, Computer Science, Information Management, or related discipline. Excellent (honors-level or better) results in prior studies are required. Candidates must satisfy the prerequisites for admission to the PhD programme of our faculty. For international candidates in particular, a GRE or GMAT result above the 75th percentile on the quantitative part and an English TOEFL (minimum score 575 paper-based, 233 computer-based, 90 internet-based), or IELTS (minimum score 7) test, both not older than 5 years are required to enter the program. In addition, we require:
-good background knowledge in the area of software engineering
-a keen interest in teaching and learning
-passion for research, willingness to go the extra mile, creativity
-ability to work efficiently in a research setting, i.e. be able to investigate new research questions and solutions.
