1. Listening Well
(1) Look at the teacher. When your teacher is talking, your eyes should be up front.
(2) Sit up. If you want to look like you're paying attention, sit up as straight as possible.
(3) Follow instructions. When your teacher asks you to do something, do it.
(4) Ask questions when you're unsure. Anytime you're unsure about what's going on, or if you have a follow-up question, ask it.
(5) Be prepared for class. When it's time to go to class, make sure you've got everything that you need ready to go, so you won't have to miss anything because you're struggling to catch up. You'll miss part of a lecture if you're trying to finish your homework before class starts. In general, you want to make sure you have, for each class:
Paper for notes, or notebooks
Pencils already sharpened or pens that work well
Books needed for class
Homework or assignments that are due
Glue, crayons, rulers, calculators, or other specialty stuff for a particular class
2. Remembering What You Hear
Listen to the ideas, don't try to catch every word.
3. Taking Good Notes
Have good note-taking materials ready to go.
Write down notes even if you're not told to.
Only write down key words.
Try to write things in your own words.
