IEEE Computer Applications and Graphics

CG&A Author Information

There are several options for contributing content to IEEE Computer Graphics and Applications (CG&A) magazine. All submission categories elicit contributions relevant to the main focus areas of the magazine. In particular, we invite original articles on the theory and practice of computer graphics, visualization, virtual and augmented reality, and HCI. We seek articles meant for a broad audience of both academicians and practitioners, from specific algorithm contributions to full system descriptions, from evaluation studies to design studies, in areas such as modeling, rendering, animation, data visualization, HCI/user interfaces, novel applications, hardware architectures, haptics, and virtual and augmented reality systems. The contributions should show relevance to the societal changes of today. We welcome interdisciplinary work as well as constructive contributions to ongoing discussions on the challenges we face today in academia, business, and our daily lives. We seek contributions that focus on future and emerging technologies. These contributions can take the form of regular research papers as well as tutorial, survey articles, position statements, and viewpoint articles.

General submissions are research papers on topics relevant to magazine. We also welcome survey papers and tutorials. Please see more information below.

Special-issue papers are meant for a specific issue of the magazine. We regularly run special issues on a focus topic to which you can submit research papers. You can submit a paper to a special issue or propose a new special-issue topic. Please see more information below.

Department articles are shorter papers on specific focus areas within CG&A. Learn how to submit here.

General and Special-Issue Submissions

Length and Formatting

A manuscript should not exceed 8,000 words (including title, abstract, references, bios, captions, keywords, acknowledgements, etc.), where a page is approximately 800 words. The abstract should be no more than 150 words and should describe the overall focus of your manuscript.

About a quarter of the paper’s length should be taken up by images, photos, artwork, and tables. Articles should include no more than 10 figures or images. Each 1/4 page figure, image, and table counts for approximately 200 words. Note that all tables, images, and illustrations must be appropriately scaled and legible; larger elements should be accounted for accordingly with respect to word count.

References should be well-chosen, ideally not exceeding 20 (except for surveys, which may have up to 30). Please limit the number of references to the most relevant and ensure to delineate your work from relevant past articles in CG&A. Furthermore, avoid an excessive number of references to published work that might only be marginally relevant. Consider instead providing such pertinent background material in sidebars for nonexpert readers.

Send a biographical sketch of each author with the final, accepted manuscript. In 60 words or less, the bio should list current position, technical interests, education, professional honors, professional affiliations (optional), and contact address.

Template: Please follow the link to the the current template for authors and choose the “Computer Society Magazines” template for your CG&A submission.

Before submitting, please read our author guidelines. When you are ready to submit, please go to ScholarOne Manuscripts. When submitting, please include a title, abstract, and contact information for all authors.

Video

Every accepted article will have to include a short video before it can be published. The video is meant to advertise your paper to encourage the viewer to read your paper. It will be published on the YouTube channel of our magazine. The video is not required until the camera-ready deadline. Please visit our instructions for videos on our video guidelines page.

Review Process

For each submitted paper, an editorial board member chooses several referees to provide anonymous reviews directly to the authors. The editor assesses the referees’ reports and makes an overall decision on whether to publish on the basis of the reports, but that decision fundamentally derives from a consensus of the peer reviewers. In case of questions, please contact our associate editor-in-chief for regular submissions, Richard Zhang at haoz@sfu.ca.

Open Access

This magazine is a hybrid publication, allowing either traditional manuscript submission or author-paid Open Access (OA) manuscript submission.

The OA option, if selected, enables unrestricted public access to the article via IEEE Xplore and the Computer Society Digital Library with payment of the current Article Processing Charge (APC). The OA option will be offered to the author at the time the manuscript is submitted and the APC must be paid before the article is published in the magazine. Note that authors will receive an email from CCC-Rightslink, our APC vendor, asking for payment. Please visit the IEEE Open Access FAQs for further details. Authors seeking an APC waiver should submit substantiated evidence and documentation to pubs-waivers@computer.org. Corresponding authors from low-income countries are eligible for waived or reduced open access APCs.

The traditional option, if selected, enables access to all qualified subscribers and purchasers via IEEE Xplore and the Computer Society Digital Library. No OA payment is required.
