Guide for Authors
Introduction
Colloid and Interface Science Communications is a primary research journal that provides the colloids community an efficient and flexible route for the publication of scientifically and ethically sound articles which may not always find the right home on first submission.
The journal is a forum for the rapid publication of short initial reports, full research papers and review articles on new fundamental concepts, research findings, and topical applications at the forefront of the increasingly interdisciplinary area of colloid and interface science. Emphasis is given to novel experimental techniques and theoretical/computational methods for advanced studies of interfacial interactions and design of colloidal materials, including:
• Colloidal solutions, self-assembly, surfactant and polymer mesophases
• Interfacial processes, adsorption, capillarity, wetting, and microfluidics
• Soft matter, membranes, coatings, films, gels, and foams
• Nanoparticles, nanotubes, and low dimensionality materials
• Colloidal nanostructures and micro-mesoporous materials
• Biointerfaces, biocolloids, biofilms, and biomembranes
The scope of applications include nanomaterials, energy production and storage, biotechnologies, nanomedicine, drug delivery, environmental sustainability, adsorption separations, catalysis, electrochemistry, food, pharmaceutical, personal care, and cosmetic products.
Types of Papers
The journal publishes short communications and review articles focusing on recent developments. In considering a manuscript for publication, particular attention will be given to the originality of the research and the desirability of speedy publication and the clarity of the presentation. The editors will aim for a rapid review process and only manuscripts that need no changes or only minor revisions will be accepted.
Short communications: Short Communications should have a maximum total length of 4,000 words and a maximum of 30 references. In addition, a (combined) maximum of 8 normal-sized figures and/or tables is allowed (so for instance 3 tables and 5 figures). For multiple-panel figures each set of two panels equates to one figure. A brief abstract of maximum 150 words should be included.
Review articles: Review articles, covering recent developments in the field, should have a maximum total length of 10,000 words. In addition, a (combined) maximum of 10 normal-sized figures and/or tables is allowed (figures/tables may increase to more than 10 after discussion with editor). For multiple-panel figures each set of two panels equates to one figure. A brief abstract of maximum 150 words should be included.Cover letter
A cover letter to the Editor is mandatory. The letter should contain a brief statement about the novelty of the submitted work.
Submission checklist
You can use this list to carry out a final check of your submission before you send it to the journal for review. Please check the relevant section in this Guide for Authors for more details.
Ensure that the following items are present:
One author has been designated as the corresponding author with contact details:
• E-mail address
• Full postal address
All necessary files have been uploaded:
Manuscript:
• Include keywords
• All figures (include relevant captions)
• All tables (including titles, description, footnotes)
• Ensure all figure and table citations in the text match the files provided
• Indicate clearly if color should be used for any figures in print
Graphical Abstracts / Highlights files (where applicable)
Supplemental files (where applicable)
Further considerations
• Manuscript has been 'spell checked' and 'grammar checked'
• All references mentioned in the Reference List are cited in the text, and vice versa
• Permission has been obtained for use of copyrighted material from other sources (including the Internet)
• A competing interests statement is provided, even if the authors have no competing interests to declare
• Journal policies detailed in this guide have been reviewed
• Referee suggestions and contact details provided, based on journal requirements
