Instructions for Authors
Scope
Oud Holland - Journal for Art of the Low Countries (OH) is the oldest surviving art-historical periodical in the world. Founded by Adriaan de Vries and Nicolaas de Roever in 1883, it has appeared virtually without interruption ever since. Supported by the RKD – Netherlands Institute for Art History since 1972, it is entirely devoted to the visual arts of the Low Countries from 1400 until early 20th century and has featured thousands of scholarly articles, including numerous pioneering art-historical studies. Oud Holland is a double-blind peer review journal with four issues per year and at least 200 pages in total.
The main language of publication is English, articles in Dutch are accompanied by an extended English summary. Oud Holland is published by Brill in cooperation with the RKD - Netherlands Institute for Art History.
Online Submission
Authors should submit their manuscript online via the Editorial Manager (EM) online submission system at: editorialmanager.com/oh. First-time users of EM need to register first. Go to the website and click on the "Register Now" link in the login menu. Enter the information requested. During registration, you can fill in your username and password. If you should forget this username and password, click on the "send login details" link in the login section, and enter your e-mail address exactly as you entered it when you registered. Your access codes will then be e-mailed to you.
Prior to submission, authors are encouraged to read these ‘Instructions for Authors’. During the submitting process you will be guided through the creation and uploading of the various files.
A revised document is uploaded the same way as the initial submission. The system automatically generates an electronic (PDF) proof, which is then used for reviewing purposes. All correspondence, including the editor’s request for revision and final decision, is sent by e-mail.
Double-blind Peer Review
Oud Holland uses a double-blind peer review system, which means that manuscript author(s) do not know who the reviewers are, and that reviewers do not know the names of the author(s).
When you submit your article via Editorial Manager, you will be asked to submit a separate title page that includes the full title of the manuscript, the names and complete contact details of all authors, the abstract, keywords, and any acknowledgement texts. This page will not be accessible to the referees. The biographical note should also be uploaded as a separate file. All other files (manuscript, figures, tables, etc.) should not contain any information concerning author names, institutions, etc. The names of these files and document properties should also be anonymized.
File Format
Please upload the manuscript as a source file such as .doc, and not as a .pdf. Tables should be submitted as Word files, and figures should be submitted in high resolution, preferably as .tif files (see below under Figures).
Contact Address
For any questions or problems relating to your manuscript please contact the Managing Editor, Menno Jonker at: oudholland@rkd.nl. For eventual questions about Editorial Manager, authors may contact the Brill EM Support Department at: em@brill.com.
