Submission guidelines

Journal of Chemical Sciences

Guidelines for the preparation of manuscripts

"Please note the journal ‘strongly recommends’ the author to provide ORCID Ids of all the authors, though it is not mandatory. If ORCID is provided it will help in quick processing of the article."

Brief guidelines for the preparation of manuscripts is given below; for detailed instructions, see Information for Authors at:

www.ias.ac.in/Journals/Journal_of_Chemical_Sciences.

Papers must present results of original work as a Regular Article or Rapid Communication. Reviews of important fields and Perspective articles in emerging areas will also be considered for publication. Comment articles on recently published papers may also be submitted. In the cover letter, Authors must explain the novelty of the work (and urgency for publication, in the case of Rapid Communication), and suggest names of 3 potential referees. Submission of the manuscript will be deemed to imply that it has not been published previously and is not under consideration for publication elsewhere (either partly or wholly), and further that, if accepted, it will not be published elsewhere. The jurisdiction for all disputes concerning submitted articles, published materials, subscription and sale will be at the courts/tribunals situated in the city of Bengaluru only.

Typescript

The manuscript should be prepared in grammatically correct English. The file should be prepared in Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) or LATEX with 2.5 cm margin on all sides and a line spacing of 1.5. Figures, Schemes and Tables with captions should be embedded at appropriate places in the text, distinctly separated from the main text. For a Sample Manuscript, see Information for Authors at the URL above.

(1) Title of the paper should be short and self-explanatory.

(2) Name(s) of all author(s) with initial(s) and the name and address of the institution where the work was carried out must be provided. Present address(es) of the author(s) may be given if different from the above. Email-id and phone number of the corresponding author must be included.

Abstract and Keywords

All papers must have an Abstract of not more than 200 words. Presentation of numerical results should be avoided as far as possible. If the manuscript is accepted, a Graphical Abstract consisting of Synopsis (maximum 50 words) and a suitable figure or equation is required (for examples, see Information for Authors at the URL above). 4–6 keywords must be provided.

Graphical Abstract is required for the 'Table of Contents' page.

Graphical Abstract page should contain, (a) a synopsis of the paper, not exceeding 50 words, and ( ) PICTOGRAM: one (only one) important small figure/photograph (please prepare this carefully so that the clarity and readability of the text are not lost when reduced to a size of 175px x 5 cm).

Text

Articles must be divided into four main sections: Introduction, Experimental or Theoretical/Computational, Results and Discussion and Conclusions. Main sections should be numbered 1, 2 etc., sub-sections 1.1, 1.2 etc., and further as 1.1.1, 1.1.2, etc. Use of the SI system of units and symbols is recommended. The above division of sections is not applicable to Reviews, Perspectives and Rapid Communications.

Tables

All Tables must be numbered consecutively in Arabic numerals in the order of their appearance in the text. Tables should be selfcontained and have a descriptive title.

Figures

All Figures including photographs should be numbered consecutively in Arabic numerals in the order of their appearance in the text. Figure captions must be provided separately, below each figure. Line drawings and structures should be made using suitable software like ChemDraw, IsisDraw, etc. Lines must be sufficiently thick for reduction to a half or third of the original size.

Symbols and Mathematical material

Symbols and equations should be carefully checked by authors for correctness, in the manuscript as well as in the .pdf file prepared by the Editorial Manager. Equations must be clear, each one on a separate line, and well-separated from the text. All equations must be numbered consecutively in Arabic numerals. Special characters (Greek letters, vector, tensor, matrix, etc., symbols) should be checked carefully; for example, vectors must be in bold. If special characters are used extensively then an explanatory table of Symbols on a separate page is recommended.

References

For examples, see Information for Authors in Journal website at the URL above. References should be cited in the text as a superscript number in order of appearance. References should be listed at the end of the manuscript in serial order. References should be in the following format.

Journals (Note: Cite either page number or Article ID number, as appropriate):

Desiraju G R 1991 The C-H...O Hydrogen Bond in Crystals: What is it? Acc. Chem. Res. 24 290

Wagh R B, Gund S H and Nagarkar J M 2016 An eco-friendly oxidation of sulfide compounds J. Chem. Sci. 128 1321

Books:

Lippert E, Luder W and Boos H 1962 In Advances in Molecular Spectroscopy A Mangini (Ed.) (Oxford: Pergamon) p. 443 For conference proceedings, Thesis, etc., see the URL above.

Supplementary Information (SI)

Authors are encouraged to submit extensive Data/Figures/Tables and scanned copies of recorded spectra in Supplementary Information. For newly synthesized molecules, it is mandatory to submit scanned copies of one or more of the following spectra/reports, as applicable: NMR (1H, 13C) spectra; ESR spectra; cif (converted to Microsoft Word file), CheckCIF files and CCDC deposition numbers, but NOT Fo/Fc Tables for crystal structure analysis; mass spectra; elemental analysis reports; etc. Figures and Tables in SI are to be labeled as S1, S2, etc. The content of SI should be stated briefly in a paragraph in the manuscript after Conclusions.’

Appendices

If included, they should be labeled A, B... with equations labeled as A1, A2, B1, B2, etc.

List of files to be submitted

Cover letter, Manuscript with embedded figures/tables, Supplementary Information, High resolution figures (if any), CIF/CheckCIF files (if any), etc.

Proof: Authors should prepare the original/revised manuscript carefully and avoid corrections/alterations after acceptance. Proof will be sent as a .pdf file to the Corresponding Author. Corrections should be sent by email either as a text message listed serially with the relevant line numbers or as annotated .pdf file.
