MOLECULAR GENETICS AND GENOMICS

Instructions for Authors

Authorship Policy

Authorship should incorporate and should be restricted to those who have contributed substantially to the work in one or more of the following categories:

Conceived of or designed study

Performed research

Analyzed data

Contributed new methods or models

Wrote the paper

Types of papers

Molecular Genetics and Genomics (MGG) publishes Reviews, Original Papers, and Methodology Papers. All submitted manuscripts undergo a rigorous, fair, and rapid peer-review.

The criteria below are a guideline and are used also by editors and referees to assess manuscripts submitted to MGG. Hence it is advisable to make clear within the manuscript itself and/or in an accompanying letter how manuscripts meet such criteria.

Original Papers should describe and appropriately interpret results of a complete study. "Complete" in this sense does not refer to the length of an article. However, the results presented must justify all conclusions drawn and those conclusions should constitute a significant step ahead in the relevant field. The study presented must arrive at a defined endpoint, which ideally will stimulate further research. Generally, the results presented should be of interest well beyond the lab of the authors or should be likely to become of such wider interest in the foreseeable future. Hence, the manuscript must be prepared such that its content is accessible to a wide audience.

We welcome articles based on analysis of genome sequences leading to novel insight and/or stimulate further experimental research. We also welcome theoretical studies that stimulate future experimental studies.

Methodology Papers describe and document a new, or substantially improved method/approach/software/database, without using it to address a research question (in which case the paper would be an Original Paper). The method described should be of interest for a large number of laboratories.

Reviews should summarize the present knowledge in a certain field or topic, identify open research questions and/or phrase new and exciting hypotheses. Such reviews can be more comprehensive (up to 20 printed pages) or more concise but should be focused around an attractive question of research. The most important criteria are that reviews are of interest to a wider audience and/or make a wide audience aware of novel and interesting aspects. Authors are very welcome to critically discuss present knowledge and even to speculate, as long as such speculations are founded on present knowledge. Within the focus of the article the review should be complete, written in an exciting and stimulating way and it should be well-illustrated. Reviews are commonly invited by the Editors of MGG. However, we very much welcome suggestions for reviews. Please send an outline of your ideas together with a brief statement why you feel that this field would profit from the review and a possible manuscript submission date to:

Animal Genetics: Joan Cerdà (joan.cerda@irta.cat)

Plant Genetics: Bing Yang (yangbi@missouri.edu)

Human Genetics: Shuhua Xu (xushua@picb.ac.cn)

Molecular Genetics: Martine Collart (Martine.Collart@unige.ch)

Manuscripts submitted to MGG must be written in English and the quality of the language must be sufficient to fluently read and understand the paper and to allow a non-expert to edit language. Please ask a native English-speaking colleague or a professional editing service for help. We recommend our affiliated services Nature Research Editing Service and American Journal Experts. These language editing services will charge authors directly for their services. However, using an editing service is neither a requirement nor a guarantee of acceptance for publication.

Manuscript Submission

Submission of a manuscript implies: that the work described has not been published before; that it is not under consideration for publication anywhere else; that its publication has been approved by all co-authors, if any, as well as by the responsible authorities tacitly or explicitly at the institute where the work has been carried out. The publisher will not be held legally responsible should there be any claims for compensation.

Permissions

Authors wishing to include figures, tables, or text passages that have already been published elsewhere are required to obtain permission from the copyright owner(s) for both the print and online format and to include evidence that such permission has been granted when submitting their papers. Any material received without such evidence will be assumed to originate from the authors.

Online Submission

Please follow the hyperlink Submit manuscript on the right and upload all of your manuscript files following the instructions given on the screen.

Please ensure you provide all relevant editable source files. Failing to submit these source files might cause unnecessary delays in the review and production process.

Plagiarism prevention with CrossCheck

Springer is a participant of CrossCheck, a multi-publisher plagiarism detection initiative to screen published and submitted content for originality. CrossCheck consists of two products: a database of scholarly publications (CrossCheck) and a web-based tool (iThenticate) to check an authored work against that database.

This journal uses the plagiarism tool to detect instances of overlapping and similar text in submitted manuscripts and your manuscript may be screened upon submission for plagiarism against previously published works.
