JOURNAL OF THORACIC IMAGING

SCOPE

Journal of Thoracic Imaging (JTI) provides authoritative information on all aspects of the use of imaging techniques in the diagnosis of cardiac and pulmonary diseases. Original articles and analytical reviews published in this timely journal provide the very latest thinking of leading experts concerning the use of chest radiography, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, positron emission tomography, ultrasound, post-processing and image analysis tools, and all other promising applications in cardiopulmonary radiology.

PUBLICATION POLICY

The editor invites submission of 1) original articles, based on observation or experimentation that add new knowledge to the field of chest diagnosis, 2) pictorial essays, that primarily utilize images to review a specific entity, 3) review articles, solicited by the editor or guest editor as part of a symposium or as a state-of-the-art review, which codify existing knowledge or throw light on the present and future roles of the various cardiopulmonary imaging techniques, and 4) opinion articles, which describe an author's view of a controversial topic, and are usually solicited by the editorial team. As of January 2011, pictorial essays are published only in the electronic version of the journal. Other types of articles are generally published in both the printed and electronic versions of the journal. As of December 19, 2011, the journal no longer accepts case report submissions.

The Journal will publish papers in the areas of adult and pediatric chest medicine, cardiovascular disease, surgery, physiology, pathology (clinical or experimental), imaging technology, and health policy. The decision to accept or reject an article will be based on the judgment of the editor and deputy editor upon assessment of the submitted work, usually with the assistance of reviews by expert referees.

Material submitted to the journal must not be under consideration for publication elsewhere, and if accepted, must not be published elsewhere in similar form, in any language, without the consent of Lippincott Williams & Wilkins. Additionally, it is important to inform the editor of any potential overlap with previously published material by the same authors. In such instances, the authors should submit a copy of the prior publication to the editor for review, along with a statement that describes how the current manuscript differs substantially from previously published material. Each person listed as an author is expected to have participated in the study to a significant extent. Although the editors and referees make every effort to ensure the validity of published manuscripts, the final responsibility rests with the authors, not with the Journal, its editors, or the publisher.

The Journal of Thoracic Imaging does allow the submission of manuscripts that have been prior publicized on community preprint servers. In that event, the authors are required to disclose full details about the preprint server in their submission, as this should be addressed in the cover letter and title page, including the DOI. The Journal does not allow submitted manuscripts that have already undergone the peer-review process to be publicized on a preprint server.

All manuscripts must be submitted online through the journal's Editorial Manager site at http://jti.edmgr.com/. See submission instructions on the next page, under Online manuscript submission.

ETHICAL AND LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS

Patient anonymity and informed consent: It is the author's responsibility to ensure that a patient's anonymity be carefully protected and to verify that any experimental investigation with human subjects reported in the manuscript was performed with informed consent and following all the guidelines for experimental investigation with human subjects required by the institution(s) with which all the authors are affiliated. All original articles require inclusion of a statement within the Materials and Methods' section documenting formal institutional review board (IRB) approval, informed consent (if applicable), and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) compliance (for studies performed in the United States).

Authors should remove patients' names and other identifying information from figures. If any identifying details appear in text, tables, and/or figures, the author must provide proof of informed consent obtained from the patient (i.e., a signed permissions form). Photographs with bars placed over eyes of patients should NOT be used in publication. If they are used, permission from the patient is required.

Conflicts of interest: Authors must state all possible conflicts of interest on the title page of the manuscript, including financial, consultant, institutional and other relationships that might lead to bias or a conflict of interest. If there is no conflict of interest, this should also be explicitly stated as none declared. All sources of funding should be acknowledged in the manuscript. All relevant conflicts of interest and sources of funding should be included on the title page of the manuscript with the heading Conflicts of Interest and Source of Funding:. For example:

Conflicts of Interest and Source of Funding: A has received honoraria from Company Z. B is currently receiving a grant (#12345) from Organization Y, and is on the speaker's bureau for Organization X the CME organizers for Company A. For the remaining authors none were declared.

Copyright: In addition, each author must complete and submit the journal's copyright transfer agreement, which includes a section on the disclosure of potential conflicts of interest based on the recommendations of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors, Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals (www.icmje.org/update.html). The form is readily available on the manuscript submission page at http://www.editorialmanager.com/jti/ and can be completed and submitted electronically. For additional information about electronically signing this form, go to http://links.lww.com/ZUAT/A106.

A copy of the form is made available to the submitting author within the Editorial Manager submission process. Co-authors will automatically receive an Email with instructions on completing the form upon submission.

Permissions: Authors must submit written permission from the copyright owner (usually the publisher) to use direct quotations, tables, or illustrations that have appeared in copyrighted form elsewhere, along with complete details about the source. Any permissions fees that might be required by the copyright owner are the responsibility of the authors requesting use of the borrowed material, not the responsibility of Lippincott Williams & Wilkins.

For permission and/or rights to use content for which the copyright holder is LWW or the society, please go to the journal's website and after clicking on the relevant article, click on the Request Permissions link under the Article Tools box that appears on the right side of the page.
