Author Instructions
Please read these instructions carefully before beginning the submission process. To contact the Journal Staff about an in-progress submission, follow these steps:
Log into your eJournal account.
Click Live Manuscripts folder.
Select the manuscript you have a question about.
Under "More Manuscript Info and Tools," click Send Manuscript Correspondence.
New Account Registration
To register a new account, click the "New Users: Please Register Here" link on the home page. You will be asked to enter your Last (Family) Name, Email and Telephone Number. The system will use this information to determine if an account already exists for you.
If the system finds an existing account, your login name and a temporary password will be automatically emailed to you. If you need further assistance, please contact the Journal Staff directly.
If the system does not find an existing account, you will be directed to the registration screen where you will enter in your personal information and choose a login name and password. You may log in immediately after creating your new account. You will also receive an email with your selected login information.
Modify Profile / Password
You may update your profile information (such as address, areas of expertise, phone number, email, etc.) or your password at any time.
Log into your existing account.
Under the General Tasks, click Modify Profile/Password.
Review Process
The manuscript submission and peer review process is broken down into the following steps:
The Author submits a manuscript.
The Editor assigned an Associate Editor to the manuscript.
The Associate Editor assigns Reviewers to the manuscript.
The Reviewers review the manuscript.
The Associate Editor makes a recommendation to the Editor.
The Editor reviews all materials and sends a decision letter to the Author.
Preparing to Submit
Before submitting a manuscript, please gather the following information:
All Authors information
First and Last (Family) Names
Postal Addresses
Work Telephone Numbers (for Corresponding Author only)
Email addresses
Title (you can copy and paste this from your manuscript)
Abstract (you can copy and paste this from your manuscript)
Manuscript files in MS Word, WordPerfect, EPS, text, Postscript, PDF, Latex, or RTF format. Notes:
For MS Word files, please make sure the "Language" is "English (U.S.)"via File->Options->Language.
Please include DOIs for any referenced article. URLs are acceptable, if there is no DOI.
Cover Letter, including job title and institution for EVERY Author listed on the manuscript.
Figures/Images must be in TIFF, GIF, JPG, PDF, Postscript, or EPS format.
Submission Process
The four steps of the submission process are: Files, Manuscript Information, Validate, and Submit. The four steps each contain sub-steps that can be accessed by clicking on their respective tabs. You can save entered information by either clicking a new tab or the boxes "Save and Continue" and "Next". Each step and sub-step is listed below:
Files
Upload Files
A screen asking for the actual file locations (via an open file dialog) will appear. After completing this screen, your files will be converted to PDF for the peer review process.
Remove Files
Allows the user to remove previously uploaded files.
Replace Files
Allows the user to replace any previously submitted files with another file.
File Type
This tab prompts the user to choose the "file type" that corresponds to the upload document. The five basic types of files are Author Cover Letter, Article File, Figure, Table, and Supplemental Material.
File Description
When uploading a file type labeled "Figure", "Table", or "Supplemental Material," the user must give a brief description of the content that is included in the file.
File Order
This tab allows the user to rearrange files to be displayed at the author's discretion. This tab also gives the option to merge PDF files into a single PDF file to display to the Editor and Reviewers. Upon completion, the user must check the checkbox indicating completion of the ordering and selection process.
Manuscript Information
Title and Abstract
The user must provide a Title and an Abstract for the manuscript. Note: The Title and Abstract fields have word or character limits.
Authors
This tab prompts the user to submit General Information about the author(s). The fields marked with an asterisk (*) are required, and the user must complete them to continue the submission process.
Keywords and Focused Sections
The user selects keywords from the provided list. If needed, the author can provide additional keywords for the manuscript by typing them in the blank boxes. If the manuscript is for a focused section, the user must select the specific focused section from the pull-down menu.
Detailed Information
This screen asks for agreement to the listed statements, questions about conflict of interest and dual publication. It also provides a space for the user to give additional comments about the manuscript.
Financials
This tab provides information about the journal's publication charges.
Journal Specific Information
This tab asks for information about the principal author.
Author Review Suggestions
This screen allows the user to provide "suggested reviewers" to include for the revision process. The author can also provide reviewers to exclude from the revision process.
