About JAMA Internal Medicine

JAMA Internal Medicine is an international peer-reviewed journal providing innovative and clinically relevant research for practitioners in general internal medicine and internal medicine subspecialties. We strive to publish articles that are stimulating to read, educate and inform readers with the most up-to-date research, and lead to positive change in our health care systems and the way we deliver patient care. JAMA Internal Medicine is a member of the JAMA Network, a consortium of peer-reviewed, general medical and specialty publications. Articles published in JAMA Internal Medicine have led to actions by the FDA and congressional hearings on matters of patient safety that have put into place better measures to protect the public.

The journal has a series, called "Less Is More®," that highlights situations in which the overuse of medical care may result in harm and in which less care is likely to result in better health. Manuscripts are designated as "Less Is More" by the editors if the subject highlights the value of improved patient-centered outcomes associated with lesser intensity or quantity of interventions.

Journal Frequency and Access. JAMA Internal Medicine is published online weekly, every Monday, and in 12 print/online issues a year. The journal receives over 10 million online visits annually and more than 14 million article views and downloads. Without any author fees, all research articles are made free access online 12 months after publication on the website. In addition, the online version is freely available or nearly so to institutions in developing countries through the World Health Organization's HINARI program.

Editorial Information. The journal’s acceptance rate is 8%. The median time to first decision is 1 day, and 33 days with review. The journal's Impact Factor is 21.9, ranking high among internal medicine journals. All articles are published online first. Additional information on the types of articles published and editorial policies is available in the journal's Instructions for Authors.

Editorial Team. Rita F. Redberg, MD, MSc, University of California San Francisco School of Medicine, San Francisco, California, is the editor in chief. For a complete listing of the journal's Editors and Editorial Board, see Editors and Publishers.

Mission Statement: To promote the art and science of medicine and the betterment of human health by publishing manuscripts of interest and relevance to internists practicing as generalists or as medical subspecialists.
