Submissions to Interpretation
Follow the instructions below in order to submit your abstract for inclusion in an upcoming issue of Interpretation.
Submission and review system
Papers submitted to Interpretation should meet the requirements detailed in the submission section of Interpretation Instructions to Authors. If certain requirements are not met, a paper may be prevented from being accepted for review.
Manuscripts should be submitted online through ScholarOne Manuscripts. This system is used for online submission, peer review, and tracking. During the review process, authors use the online system to check paper status, communicate with editors, and submit revisions.
Instructions to Authors
Interpretation is a dedicated forum for subsurface interpretation geoscientists. For papers focused on interpretation concepts, methodologies, tools, and workflows, the journal requires originality, completeness of descriptions, and demonstrations of viability. For papers that contain subsurface interpretations, the journal's novelty requirement can be satisfied by new applications of established methods. Please read Interpretation's Instructions to authors for submission guidelines.
Interpretation Procedures
Procedures for Interpretation (PDF) outline the journal’s editorial policy, editorial structure, review process, production process, editorial board appointment guidelines and service requirements, and page-charge policy.
Tools, Techniques, and Tutorials section instructions to authors
The purpose of the Tools, Techniques, and Tutorials section is to showcase innovative geophysical technology and workflows that are of significant interest to the interpretation community. Presentations of a tool or technique will clearly define the underlying assumptions, make comparisons to conventional interpretation workflows, and clearly illustrate the interpretation benefit. Read the Special Author Instructions for the Tools, Techniques, and Tutorials series.
Pitfalls series instructions to authors
The purpose of the Pitfalls series is to advance the awareness of users of geophysical technology in the practice and art of interpretation by understanding failed cases of technology application. The method of presenting a pitfall is to illustrate how a geophysical technology can be inadvertently misused, resulting in convincing but false answers. Read the Special Author Instructions for the Pitfalls series.
Funny Looking Things in Seismic Data instructions to authors
This standing section of the journal is intended to capture some of the less-well-recognized geologic features as they appear on seismic data, and follow on to the special section in the November 2020 Interpretation issue. Read the special author instructions for this section.
Ethical Guidelines
Ethical guidelines presented here for editors, authors, and reviewers of SEG publications and staff that support them reflect a conviction that adherence to high standards is vital to the advancement of applied geophysics as a science and a profession.
Illustration preparation requirements
All illustrations must be submitted in electronic format. Illustrations submitted after the paper is accepted must meet specifications. Papers may be delayed or rejected if these illustration guidelines are not followed. Click here for the full illustration specification requirements.
Keywords
SEG suggests keywords for indexing your submission by subject.
LaTeX packages
A typesetting package is available to help authors prepare papers for SEG journal submission. The package consists of a set of macros prepared for LaTeX, a popular document preparation system. Authors who use the LaTeX typesetting program to prepare their manuscripts can use the SEG macros (called SEGTeX ) to format the text, equations, references, and appendices so that they conform to SEG's guidelines for submission.
Publication forms
Interpretation author publication forms are available for download.
Reprints
Authors may order reprints of articles published in Interpretation through Sheridan Reprints , SEG's author reprint service provider.
