IEEE MultiMedia Author Information
IEEE MultiMedia magazine seeks original articles discussing research and advanced practices in hardware and software, spanning the range from theory to working systems. We encourage our authors to write in a conversational style, presenting even technical material clearly and simply. You can use figures, tables, and sidebars to explain specific points, summarize results, define acronyms, guide readers to other sources, or highlight items. Assume an educated general audience, and you will successfully communicate your ideas to generalists and specialists alike.
Articles submitted to IEEE MultiMedia should not exceed 6,500 words, including all text, the abstract, keywords, bibliography, and biographies. Each table and figure counts for 200 words. Please limit the number of references to the 20 most relevant (except for surveys, which may have up to 30 references). The abstract should be no more than 150 words and should describe the overall focus of your manuscript.
Send a biographical sketch of each author with the final, accepted manuscript. In 60 words or less, the bio should list current position, technical interests, education, professional honors, professional affiliations (optional), and contact address.
Before submitting, please read our author guidelines. When you are ready to submit, please go to ScholarOne Manuscripts.
Special-issue submissions
Please see our Calls for Papers page for upcoming special issues. Please note that guest editors cannot submit to their own special issue so as to avoid conflicts of interest.

Open Access
This magazine is a hybrid publication, allowing either traditional manuscript submission or author-paid Open Access (OA) manuscript submission.
The OA option, if selected, enables unrestricted public access to the article via IEEE Xplore and the Computer Society Digital Library with payment of the current Article Processing Charge (APC). The OA option will be offered to the author at the time the manuscript is submitted and the APC must be paid before the article is published in the magazine. Note that authors will receive an email from CCC-Rightslink, our APC vendor, asking for payment. Please visit the IEEE Open Access FAQs for further details. Authors seeking an APC waiver should submit substantiated evidence and documentation to pubs-waivers@computer.org. Corresponding authors from low-income countries are eligible for waived or reduced open access APCs.
The traditional option, if selected, enables access to all qualified subscribers and purchasers via IEEE Xplore and the Computer Society Digital Library. No OA payment is required.
