WEATHER
Purpose and Scope of Weather
Weather is a full-colour journal and the Editors welcome novel and original manuscripts containing excellent quality figures, photographs, and imagery.
Weather has a wide appeal among professional and non-professionals alike, with an audience ranging from students to teachers, interested amateurs, to practitioners and scientists in the weather and climate and related industries, as well as those in academic circles.
Manuscripts should be of excellent quality, short, engaging and highly illustrative on any topic in relation to the weather and climate, including climatology, oceanography, historical meteorology, and all other fields in relation to weather and climate. We particularly welcome the submission of new material relating to applied and practical meteorology, and state-of-the-art science and technology. Please note that although climate change is not the principal focus of Weather, excellent quality illustrative short papers on this topic are also encouraged.
Weather is the leading UK journal for all those motivated to learn more about meteorology and the science of the atmosphere, as well its links with related fields such as hydrology, oceanography, or environmental science. Weather has a broad popular science style and outlook.
Authors should note that while Weather does have a magazine format, the research articles it contains should always be objective and evidence-supported (i.e., not anecdotal), in much the same way as other journal articles.
Publication policy
Papers submitted for publication in Weather may be on any aspect of the weather, including climatology, oceanography, historical meteorology and related environmental matters. In submitting articles authors must take into account the wide readership of Weather – while contributions covering a wide variety of topics are welcome, authors should ensure that the terminology and technical content of articles can be understood by non-meteorologists. Material of a technical nature is more suitably submitted to one of the Society’s other journals. Responsibility for the accuracy of material submitted rests with the author. Any potential conflict in interest must be declared upon first submission.
Preprint policy
Please find the Wiley preprint policy here.
This journal will consider for review, articles previously available as preprints on non-commercial servers such as ArXiv, bioRxiv, psyArXiv, SocArXiv, engrXiv, etc. Authors may also post the submitted version of their manuscript to non-commercial servers at any time. Authors are requested to update any pre-publication versions with a link to the final published article.
Online submission system for Weather
Weather uses an online submission system, ScholarOne, that allows authors to upload their files through the website; this also allows authors to check the status of their paper throughout the peer review process. See the ScholarOne Author Guide here.
New users will need to create an account within the system, a three-step process that takes a matter of minutes to complete. Log-in information is sent via email immediately upon completion.
Please visit the following URL to start your submission: http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/weather. You will be asked to write a short Abstract and Key Words; these will assist electronic searching and may increase the readership of your article. Neither will appear in print in the journal.
