修改稿回信（Response letter）可以说是投稿到录用阶段最重要的信件。
顾名思义，修改稿回信（Response letter）就是作者根据投稿论文审稿意见，修改好论文后给编辑以及审稿人回信。SCI稿件投稿后，经过期刊编辑漫长的审核，终于收到期刊编辑的来信，修稿之余还应该总结一下修回信中的注意事项。大多数稿件在被期刊接受前需要经历至少一次修稿，作者需要将回复信和修改稿一并递交期刊。回复信的质量直接影响论文是否被录用。作者和审稿人是双盲，而编辑作为中间人，负责论文审稿意见和作者修改稿的来回传递，所以实际上，虽然给审稿人的修改回复是作者主要写给审稿人的，但收信人却是编辑大人。因此，修改稿回信（Response letter）不能马虎。不恰当的回复轻则导致再次修改从而拖延发稿时间，重则导致文章被拒，前功尽弃。
修改稿回信（Response letter）需要对审稿意见的全面回复，将审稿意见与回复内容区别开来，并且需要进行审稿意见的分类处理，对论文中任何增加、删除和修改都要单独说明，怎么强调小心谨慎也不为过。下面给出一个有三个Reviewer的修改稿回信（Response letter）模板。修改稿回信（Response letter）实际上是给编辑的信+回答审稿人意见两部分组成：
