COGNITIVE AND BEHAVIORAL NEUROLOGY

Instructions for Authors

Contact Information

VISION

Our vision is to be the premier peer-reviewed journal that provides neurologists and neuroscientists of all professional and academic levels with high-impact and cutting-edge clinical and scientific content in the field of cognitive and behavioral neurology.

MISSION

Our mission is to provide a worldwide forum for communicating advances in the neurologic understanding and potential treatment of an array of human disorders of the brain that affect thinking, learning, memory, communication, and behavior. As an incubator for innovations within these fields, CBN facilitates the continual advancement of neuroscience and the transformation of scientific theory into clinical practice – from bench to bedside. The journal reports advancements in clinical research, patient care, and education. Many of the most important topics in brain health today, such as memory, neurodiversity, attention, and learning are covered in CBN, ranging from the diagnosis of both common and unusual forms of progressive cognitive deficit to the latest therapeutic treatment options.

RANGE OF PUBLISHED ARTICLES

The journal welcomes contributions from neurology, cognitive neuroscience, neuropsychology, neuropsychiatry, and other relevant fields. The editors particularly encourage review articles (including for clinical practice), experimental and observational case reports, and instructional articles for interested students and professionals in other fields, as well as innovative articles that do not fit neatly into any category. Also welcome are therapeutic trials and other experimental and observational studies, brief reports, first-person accounts of neurologic experiences, position papers, hypotheses, opinion papers, commentaries, historical perspectives, and book reviews. All prospective authors are encouraged to contact the managing editor (cbneditor@jhmi.edu) for any questions or discussions as to the relevance of their manuscripts prior to their submission for review.

Sample published articles are available online:

Systematic reviews describe and synthesize a recent development of significance.

Original studies present important new research results of broad significance.

Case reports present interesting and unique findings on an individual patient.

AUTHORS’ RESPONSIBILITIES

General Responsibilities

Each person listed as an author

should have participated sufficiently in the intellectual content, data gathering and analysis, or writing to take public responsibility for their contributions to the work;

must approve the manuscript for submission; and

must accept final responsibility regarding the accuracy and validity of the published manuscript.

Suitability of Manuscripts

Manuscripts will be considered for publication only if they:

report original scientific research;

contribute to the existing knowledge;

meet basic standards for good science and scientific publication;

are appropriate for an international specialty journal in clinical cognitive and behavioral neurology;

are not under consideration for publication elsewhere;

have not been published previously (except as an abstract or preliminary report); and,

if accepted, will not be published elsewhere in similar form, in any language, without the consent of the publisher, Wolters Kluwer Health.

Patient Anonymity and Informed Consent

Authors must:

verify that any study using humans or animals has followed all ethical guidelines of each author’s institution;

verify that any study using human participants was performed with the participants’ informed consent;

protect patients’ anonymity (eg, by removing the patient’s name, date of birth, and other identifying information from photographs and figures); and

for a case report, submit written consent from patients to publish their medical information, likenesses, and/or radiographic and pathologic images in a journal.
