About Cells
Aims
Cells (ISSN 2073-4409) is an international, peer-reviewed open access journal which provides an advanced forum for studies related to cell biology, molecular biology and biophysics. It publishes reviews, research articles, communications and technical notes. Our aim is to encourage scientists to publish their experimental and theoretical results in as much detail as possible. There is no restriction on the length of the papers. Full experimental and/or methodical details must be provided. There are, in addition, unique features of this journal:
manuscripts regarding research proposals and research ideas will be particularly welcomed
electronic files or software regarding the full details of the calculation and experimental procedure - if unable to be published in a normal way - can be deposited as supplementary material
we also accept manuscripts communicating to a broader audience with regard to research projects financed with public funds
Scope
Cells covers every topic related to cell biology and physiology, molecular biology, and biophysics. Thus, our major focus is on experimental cytology rather than on clinical and epidemiological studies.
Topics of interest include but are not limited to:
Cell Structure
Cell Physiology
Cellular Metabolism
Cellular Immunology
Intra- and Extracellular Signaling
Cell Movement and Motility
Autophagy
Apoptosis
Cell Aging, Senescence
Cell Techniques
Cell Growth and Differentiation
Stem Cells
Genetic Disorders and Therapy
Omics
Plant, Algae and Fungi Cell Biology
Neurodegeneration, Neuroinflammation
use the Microsoft Word template or LaTeX template to prepare your manuscript;
make sure that issues about publication ethics, research ethics, copyright, authorship, figure formats, data and references format have been appropriately considered;
Ensure that all authors have approved the content of the submitted manuscript.
Authors are encouraged to add a biography (optional) to the submission and publish it.
Manuscript Submission Overview
Types of Publications
Cells publishes the highest quality Research Articles, Reviews, Communications and Editorials. Full experimental details must be provided so that the results can be reproduced. Cells requires that authors publish all experimental controls and make full datasets available where possible (see the guidelines on Supplementary Materials and references to unpublished data).
Manuscripts submitted to Cells should neither be published previously nor be under consideration for publication in another journal. The main article types are as follows:
Articles: Cells considers all original research manuscripts, provided that the work reports scientifically sound experiments and presents a substantial amount of new information. For example, (1) the use of more than one cell line is encouraged, and when this is not possible, authors need to justify their use of a single cell line; (2) the use of orthotopic or transgenic models is recommended in in vivo studies to validate gene function; (3) Western blot figures are strongly encouraged to include the densitometry reading/intensity ratio of each band; (4) whole Western blots that show all bands with all molecular weight markers can be included in the Supplementary Materials; (5) gene silencing experiments are encouraged to use at least two gene-specific siRNAs.
Authors should not unnecessarily divide their work into several related manuscripts, although short Communications of preliminary but significant results will be considered. The quality and impact of the study will be assessed during peer review.
Cells requires authors to provide full experimental details, including all experimental controls, so that the results can be reproduced. Full datasets should be made available where possible (see the guidelines on Supplementary Materials and references to unpublished data). Cells has no restrictions on the length of research manuscripts, provided that the text is concise and comprehensive.
Reviews: Review articles provide concise and precise updates on the recent progress in a given area of research. Systematic reviews should follow PRISMA guidelines. Review articles should be comprehensive and submitted by authors who are in the field. The main text of review papers should be at least 4000 words and include at least two figures or tables.
