This Journal is a member of the Committee on Publication Ethics
This Journal recommends that authors follow the Recommendations for the Conduct, Reporting, Editing, and Publication of Scholarly Work in Medical Journals formulated by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE).

Please note that manuscripts not conforming to these guidelines may be returned. Remember you can log in to the submission site at any time to check on the progress of your paper through the peer review process.
Only manuscripts of sufficient quality that meet the aims and scope of Journal of Tissue Engineering will be reviewed.
As part of the submission process you will be required to warrant that you are submitting your original work, that you have the rights in the work, that you are submitting the work for first publication in the Journal and that it is not being considered for publication elsewhere and has not already been published elsewhere, and that you have obtained and can supply all necessary permissions for the reproduction of any copyright works not owned by you.
1. Open Access
Journal of Tissue Engineering is an open access, peer-reviewed journal. Each article accepted by peer review is made freely available online immediately upon publication, is published under a Creative Commons license and will be hosted online in perpetuity. Publication costs of the journal are covered by the collection of article processing charges which are paid by the funder, institution or author of each manuscript upon acceptance. There is no charge for submitting a paper to the journal.

2. Article processing charge (APC)
If, after peer review, your manuscript is accepted for publication, a one-time article processing charge (APC) is payable. This APC covers the cost of publication and ensures that your article will be freely available online in perpetuity under a Creative Commons licence.
The article processing charge (APC) is $2,000 (+VAT where applicable*).
*The article processing charge (APC) is payable upon acceptance after peer review and is subject to value added tax (VAT) where applicable. If the paying author/institution is based in the European Union, to comply with European law, VAT must be added to the APC. Providing a VAT registration number will allow an institution to avoid paying this tax, except for UK institutions. Payments can be made in GBP or USD.
3. Article types
The journal will consider original research and review articles for publication. Authors should submit the following:
Title Page: The title page should give the following information: (1) title of the article (in bold), as short and informative as possible, without any abbreviation; (2) one first name, initials (if applicable) and last name of each author; (3) address of the department or institution to which the work should be attributed; (4) name, telephone, fax number and email address of the author responsible for correspondence and to whom the proofs should be sent.
Abstract: This should consist of no more than 150 words summarising the contents of the article. Please do not subdivide, e.g. Background, Aim, Results, Conclusion, or similar. It is important, especially for indexing services, that the abstract should be intelligible without reference to the full text or to literature references. The abstract must stand alone, and it should be presumed that the reader has some knowledge of the subject but has not read the paper.
Main Text (Original Articles): Original Articles should comprise of an Introduction, Background, Aim, Results, Conclusion, Acknowledgements and References or similar. The Introduction should be succinct, with no subheadings.
Main Text (Review Articles): Review Articles should contain a summary, an introduction to the topic, a careful review of the relevant literature, conclusions of the reviewed literature and recommendations, if applicable.
Ethical statements: Mandatory statements for all submissions: All submissions to Journal of Tissue Engineering should include a statement confirming that the submission meets each of the below criteria. In the case of a statement being not applicable, ‘not applicable’ or ‘n/a’ is insufficient, and an explanation must be provided. In these cases the Editors expect to see the details of the Ethics Committee or Review Board that waived approval, including names and institutions of the relevant committee or a brief explanation.

- Availability of data and materials (see section 4.9)
- Conflict of interest (see section 4.5)
- Informed consent (see section 4.6)
- Ethical approval (see section 4.6)

Figures will ideally be submitted within the main text of the document, failing this they should be submitted separately and be clearly labelled.
4. Editorial policies
4.1 Peer review policy
SAGE does not permit the use of author-suggested (recommended) reviewers at any stage of the submission process, be that through the web-based submission system or other communication. Reviewers should be experts in their fields and should be able to provide an objective assessment of the manuscript. Our policy is that reviewers should not be assigned to a paper if:
• The reviewer is based at the same institution as any of the co-authors
• The reviewer is based at the funding body of the paper
• The author has recommended the reviewer
• The reviewer has provided a personal (e.g. Gmail/Yahoo/Hotmail) email account and an institutional email account cannot be found after performing a basic Google search (name, department and institution).
