Bulletin of Volcanology
Submission guidelines
Instructions for Authors
Types of Papers
Research Articles should present original and significant scientific findings. They should be concise and informative, with the minimum necessary number of illustrations and tables.
Review Articles are surveys of current and past work dealing with a particular aspect of volcanology. As the number of Review Articles published in the Bulletin is limited, authors are advised to contact the Executive Editor (andrew.harris@uca.fr) or/and Review Article Associate Editor Raffaello Cioni well in advance of submission to determine if the subject matter is appropriate.
Short Scientific Communications should concisely present new and important scientific results that are timely and lend themselves to speedy editorial handling.
Forum Contributions are intended for commentary on topical issues and discussion of controversial issues, and include Comment and Reply on previously published papers. The same editorial standards apply to Short Scientific Communications and Forum Contributions as for Research Articles.
Perspectives articles are reports that, based on the state-of-the-art in specific theme areas, provide roadmaps for future developments, directions and needs in that theme area. They would ideally be white-paper style reports based on discussions made as part of working groups, special interest meetings and conference thematic sessions. As the number of Perspectives Articles published in the Bulletin is limited, authors are advised to contact the Executive Editor (andrew.harris@uca.fr) well in advance of submission to obtain the detailed guidelines, and to determine if the subject matter and length is appropriate.
Manuscript Submission
Submission of a manuscript implies: that the work described has not been published before; that it is not under consideration for publication anywhere else; that its publication has been approved by all co-authors, if any, as well as by the responsible authorities – tacitly or explicitly – at the institute where the work has been carried out. The publisher will not be held legally responsible should there be any claims for compensation.
Permissions
Authors wishing to include figures, tables, or text passages that have already been published elsewhere are required to obtain permission from the copyright owner(s) for both the print and online format and to include evidence that such permission has been granted when submitting their papers. Any material received without such evidence will be assumed to originate from the authors.
Online Submission
Please follow the hyperlink “Submit manuscript” on the right and upload all of your manuscript files following the instructions given on the screen.
Please ensure you provide all relevant editable source files. Failing to submit these source files might cause unnecessary delays in the review and production process.
Google Earth imagery
Google Earth imagery must be appropriately acknowledged (https://www.google.com/permissions/geoguidelines/attr-guide.html).
How to Submit

Please submit:

(b) separate files clearly named for each table and figure, and
(c) any electronic supplementary material.
Any extra documentation (e.g. cover letter, previous revision notes, etc.) may be uploaded as the item type "misc" and will be included in the PDF created by Editorial Manager.
