JOURNAL OF ORTHOPAEDIC TRAUMA

The Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma is a peer-reviewed, multidisciplinary journal directed to an audience of health care providers dedicated to improving outcomes following orthopaedic trauma. In addition to full-length articles, the Journal will consider for publication brief communications on emerging technologies, and descriptions of new techniques (surgical, clinical, and experimental). Letters to the Editor are welcomed and will be sent to the manuscript authors for their response. Subsequent publication of this dialogue is solely at the discretion of the Editor-in-Chief.

The Journal is a member of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) which aims to define best practice in the ethics of scientific publishing. COPE has established a number of guidelines including a Code of Conduct, and created flow charts that help editors process cases of suspected misconduct (www.publicationethics.org).

Appeals on editorial decision should be sent to the Editor. Complaints related to how your paper was processed during peer-review and not resolved by the Editor, should be referred to the person named as publisher in About the Journal contacts (http://journals.lww.com/jorthotrauma/pages/aboutthejournal.aspx), or if unsatisfied to COPE (www.publicationethics.org).

Editorial policy

The editor will read each manuscript to determine whether it is appropriate for external peer review. Those deemed suitable will undergo external review; others will be rapidly returned to the corresponding author. The editor will respect the wishes of the corresponding author that the manuscript not be sent to a particular competing research group for review. Manuscripts will be judged solely on the basis of their content of original data and on the conclusions drawn from them.

Manuscript Submission

Authors are to submit their manuscripts through the Web-based tracking system at <https://jot.edmgr.com>. The editorial office will acknowledge receipt of your manuscript and will give you a manuscript number for reference. Address all inquiries regarding manuscripts not yet accepted or published to the Journal's editorial office. If you have any questions, please contact the Editorial Office by e-mail at editor@jotonline.org or by phone at (813) 253-2068.

Patient Anonymity and Informed Consent

It is the author's responsibility to ensure that a patient's anonymity be carefully protected and to verify that any experimental investigation with human subjects reported in the manuscript was performed with informed consent and followed all the guidelines for experimental investigation with human subjects required by the institution(s) with which all the authors are affiliated. Authors should mask patients faces and private parts and remove patients names from all figures. Identifying details including patient names and/or initials and name of specific hospital unit should not appear in the text, tables, radiographs, or other figures.

Conflicts of Interest

Authors must state all possible conflicts of interest, including financial, consultant, institutional and other relationships that might lead to bias or a conflict of interest. If there is no conflict of interest, this should also be explicitly stated as none declared. All sources of funding should be acknowledged in the manuscript. All relevant conflicts of interest and sources of funding should be included on the title page of the manuscript with the heading Conflicts of Interest and Source of Funding:. For example: Conflicts of Interest and Source of Funding: A has received honoraria from Company Z. B is currently receiving a grant (#12345) from Organization Y, and is on the speakers bureau for Organization X the CME organizers for Company A. For the remaining authors none were declared.

Copyright Transfer and Disclosure Information

All authors must complete the journal's copyright agreement which includes a section on the disclosure of potential conflicts of interest. A copy of the form is made available to the submitting author within the Editorial Manager submission process. Co-authors will receive an Email with instructions on completing the form upon submission of a revised manuscript.

Plagiarism

The Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma is a member of CrossCheck by CrossRef and iThenticate. iThenticate is a plagiarism screening service that verifies the originality of content submitted before publication. iThenticate checks submissions against millions of published research papers, and billions of web content. Authors, researchers and freelancers can also use iThenticate to screen their work before submission by visiting http://www.ithenticate.com.

Plagiarism is scientific misconduct and will be addressed as such. When plagiarism is detected at any time before publication, the Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma editorial office will take appropriate action as directed by the standards set forth by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). For additional information, please visit http://www.publicationethics.org.

Permissions

Authors must submit written permission from the copyright owner (usually the publisher) to use direct quotations, tables, or illustrations that have appeared in copyrighted form elsewhere, along with complete details about the source. Please direct permission requests to: <http://www.lww.com/resources/permissions/index.html>.

Preparation of Manuscript

Manuscripts that do not adhere to the following instructions WILL BE RETURNED to the corresponding author for technical revision before undergoing peer review.

General Format. All manuscripts should be submitted in English, and formatted for standard 81/2 x 11-inch (21 x 28-cm) paper with at least a 1-inch (2.5 cm) margin on all sides and double spaced.
