SOLAR ENERGY
Introduction and Scope
Solar Energy, the official journal of the International Solar Energy Society® (ISES), is devoted exclusively to the science and technology of solar energy applications. Solar Energy welcomes manuscripts presenting information on any aspect of solar energy research, development, application, measurement, technoeconomics or policy. Submitted manuscripts must be previously unpublished reports of original studies or reviews of significant prior work in a given area. Manuscripts must clearly articulate in the Introduction the state-of-knowledge in the subject matter through a detailed literature review, the existing knowledge gaps, and the specific original and novel contributions of the manuscript relative to the knowledge gaps. Only articles that advance the science significantly are considered for publication. Incremental advances that are based on largely well-established methods in the field are discouraged, as are manuscripts that focus on existing analysis and methods to solar installations in specific geographical areas. Further, submission in the Solar Resources area should consider the editorial Solar Energy 83 (2009) 1-1 that discourages the following submissions:
(a) Local Solar Resource: Because of the international character of Solar Energy, articles that deal solely with the specific country solar radiation or wind database are not normally considered suitable for Solar Energy.
(b) Statistical models that convert sunshine duration measurements to solar radiation. All manuscripts are subject to rigorous editorial or peer review to assure originality, accuracy, clarity, and long-term value. Only English language texts can be considered. Authors who are ISES® members should indicate their affiliation on the title page of their manuscript.
Types of Contributions
The following types of contributions are considered for Solar Energy:
1. Most of the papers published in Solar Energy are Regular Papers that give in-depth treatment to a particular topic. As a guide, regular papers should be between 4000 and 6000 words (excluding table/ figure captions and references).
2. Solar Energy also publishes Brief Technical Notes (no more than 1500 words or about 3 journal pages), which are self-contained, brief new technical contributions that don't merit a full length publication.
3. Solar Energy periodically publishes collections of invited review articles as Progress in Solar Energy special issues, each with a cohesive theme commissioned by the Editor-in-Chief. Contributed review articles may be considered on a limited basis at the discretion of the Editor-in-Chief. Review articles are generally not subject to a word limit.
NEW: Solar Energy now publishes a new article type, called Perspectives. This article type is published at the invitation of the Editor-in-Chief. These short opinion articles by leading researchers in the field are intended to be forward-looking and visionary, allowing authors to comment on issues of broad implications and pressing importance in a more condensed format than a research or review article. They are typically about 4,000 words in length. The journal will aim to fast track the assessment and review of these articles, to ensure rapid publication. Nominations for Perspectives may be made by sending a brief synopsis of the article and potential authors and affiliations to the Editor-in-Chief via email.

Submission declaration and verification
Submission of an article implies that the work described has not been published previously (except in the form of an abstract, a published lecture or academic thesis, see 'Multiple, redundant or concurrent publication' for more information), that it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere, that its publication is approved by all authors and tacitly or explicitly by the responsible authorities where the work was carried out, and that, if accepted, it will not be published elsewhere in the same form, in English or in any other language, including electronically without the written consent of the copyright-holder.
