Instructions to authors
Although Archiv retains its German name, articles are now always in English. Manuscripts should be submitted as an email attachment (archiv-molluskenkunde@senckenberg.de). Each submission will initially be allocated to be the responsibility of one of the editors, who will confirm receipt. Those manuscripts not returned directly as unsuitable for the journal or requiring reformatting will be sent to at least two referees. We do expect a good standard of English before we will trouble referees.
Since 2017, the formatting of the journal has changed significantly. Please consult the revised Instructions for Authors. Authors are also welcome to ask the editorial team for advice and for a pdf of a recent article formatted according to the new style. Names of people are now written in small caps only in citations of literature listed in the reference list, and in the reference list itself; taxonomic authorities are written in normal type.
The journal prides itself on its high-quality illustrations. The Instructions for Authors specify the necessary requirements. If file sizes are too large to send as an email attachment (> 10 MB), authors may initially submit lower-quality versions of the illustrations, or use a service such as Dropbox.
Type specimens and illustrated material should be stored in one or more established institutional collections, so as to be preserved indefinitely and made accessible to other researchers. The names of the institutions and, if possible, the registration numbers must be indicated in the manuscript. The Senckenberg museums would welcome the deposition of specimens in their own collections. Gene sequences must be deposited in Genbank and the accession numbers indicated in the manuscript.
A page charge will be applied only to excessively long manuscripts. We are normally willing to print necessary colour illustrations at no cost. However, for articles with more than 3 colour plates we may require a contribution from the authors.
On acceptance of a manuscript, authors must transfer copyright to the journal. In return, the corresponding author will be provided with a pdf of the published article for personal use only and 25 reprints free of charge.
Submissions are considered on the basis that their content has not been published elsewhere nor is currently submitted for publication in another journal (other than brief conference abstracts or press releases). Authors must guarantee that text and illustrations are not protected by copyrights of third parties or show that permission has been obtained for their commercial use both in print and electronically.
For all submissions or preliminary correspondence with editors, please email: archiv-molluskenkunde@senckenberg.de
