JOURNAL OF THE TAIWAN INSTITUTE OF CHEMICAL ENGINEERS

Journal of the Taiwan Institute of Chemical Engineers (formerly Journal of the Chinese Institute of Chemical Engineers) publishes original works, from fundamental principles to practical applications, in the broad field of chemical engineering with special focus on three aspects:

(1) Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering and Technology;

(2) Energy and Environmental Science and Technology;

(3) Materials Science and Technology.

Authors should choose for their manuscript an appropriate aspect section and a few related classifications when submitting to the journal online.

Papers will be published only when they are judged by the Editor to be characterized by some general significant conclusions or by experimental data having potential lasting value.

Types of paper

Papers appearing in the journal are of four basic types:

(1) Original Papers: formal presentation of significant and completed research work.

(2) Short Communications: brief reports which need prompt publication.

(3) Review Articles: review of important or emerging areas of chemical engineering for general readers should be timely and critical and contains the background, state of the art development, and future perspective of the area.

(4) Letter to the Editor: general comments on established chemical engineering topics and discussion of published papers.

(5) Chemical Engineering Data: systematic presentation of data of thermodynamic and transport properties, or of design data from original measurements.

Maximum length:

(a) For Original Papers, the text should not exceed 4500 words in length (including main text, references, and figure captions) and display items (including figures, schemes, and tables) should not exceed 3000 words or 10 items, on the basis of a figure or table of 3 in. x 3 in. equivalent to 300 words.

(b) Short Communications and Letters to Editors should not exceed 3000 and 1200 words (including text, references, figures captions, and display items), respectively, on the basis indicated above.

In the cover letter, authors must state the word counts of text and display items for their submitted manuscript.

Contact details for submission

Manuscripts submitted for publication in this Journal should be written in English. Submission for all types of manuscripts to Journal of the Taiwan Institute of Chemical Engineers proceeds totally online. Only original source files should be submitted.

If submission via the Editorial Manager System Web site is not possible, manuscripts should be sent to the Editor-in-chief of the Journal, Professor Heng-Kwong Tsao, Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering, National Central University, Taoyuan 320, Taiwan or via e-mail to journal@twiche.org.tw.

Ethics in publishing

Please see our information on Ethics in publishing.

Declaration of competing interest

All authors must disclose any financial and personal relationships with other people or organizations that could inappropriately influence (bias) their work. Examples of potential conflicts of interest include employment, consultancies, stock ownership, honoraria, paid expert testimony, patent applications/registrations, and grants or other funding. Authors should complete the declaration of competing interest statement using this template and upload to the submission system at the Attach/Upload Files step. Note: Please do not convert the .docx template to another file type. Author signatures are not required. If there are no interests to declare, please choose the first option in the template. More information.

Submission declaration and verification

Submission of an article implies that the work described has not been published previously (except in the form of an abstract, a published lecture or academic thesis, see 'Multiple, redundant or concurrent publication' for more information), that it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere, that its publication is approved by all authors and tacitly or explicitly by the responsible authorities where the work was carried out, and that, if accepted, it will not be published elsewhere in the same form, in English or in any other language, including electronically without the written consent of the copyright-holder. To verify originality, your article may be checked by the originality detection service Crossref Similarity Check.

Use of inclusive language

Inclusive language acknowledges diversity, conveys respect to all people, is sensitive to differences, and promotes equal opportunities. Content should make no assumptions about the beliefs or commitments of any reader; contain nothing which might imply that one individual is superior to another on the grounds of age, gender, race, ethnicity, culture, sexual orientation, disability or health condition; and use inclusive language throughout. Authors should ensure that writing is free from bias, stereotypes, slang, reference to dominant culture and/or cultural assumptions. We advise to seek gender neutrality by using plural nouns ("clinicians, patients/clients") as default/wherever possible to avoid using "he, she," or "he/she." We recommend avoiding the use of descriptors that refer to personal attributes such as age, gender, race, ethnicity, culture, sexual orientation, disability or health condition unless they are relevant and valid. When coding terminology is used, we recommend to avoid offensive or exclusionary terms such as "master", "slave", "blacklist" and "whitelist". We suggest using alternatives that are more appropriate and (self-) explanatory such as "primary", "secondary", "blocklist" and "allowlist". These guidelines are meant as a point of reference to help identify appropriate language but are by no means exhaustive or definitive.
