Bulletin of the Chemical Society of Japan
Submission
Overview: a series of author tasks
The Bulletin of the Chemical society of Japan (BCSJ) is devoted to the publication of scientific research papers in the fields of Theoretical and Physical Chemistry, Analytical and Inorganic Chemistry, Organic and Biological Chemistry, and Applied and Materials Chemistry. For those who wish to publish their research through this journal, we encourage authors to take a series of tasks in the editorial process into consideration. The BCSJ editorial process broadly occurs in three phases; preparing a manuscript for initial submission, revising it in accordance with comments provided by referees in review, and confirming a proof sent from the editorial office after it is finally accepted.
1. Preparing manuscript in initial submission
The first task which authors must tackle is to submit their manuscripts. In this phase, authors should mainly focus on topics such as the essential components for submission, the availability of templates for preparing required materials, and the specific manner of contribution. Authors must read the Submission Guideline shown below carefully and complete all required items.
2. Revising manuscript in review
The Editorial Office will send an acknowledgement of receipt together with the assigned manuscript number by e-mail to the corresponding author. Authors should contact the office if they have not received any notification within a reasonable time.
Some authors may have to revise their manuscripts when editors or referees determine that some modification is necessary. In the review phase, authors sometimes need to change their manuscripts in accordance with referee comments. All communication between authors and editors occurs by an online submission system called “ScholarOne Manuscripts”.
3. Confirming proof
Authors whose papers are accepted by editors will be provided a proof and will have an opportunity to check them. Notification will be provided by the editorial office with a short guide for confirmation and authors must respond after competing confirmation. This is the third task in the editorial process followed by publication of the article.
Requirements for submission
There are no specific requirements for submission. All submissions are free of charge except for some options such as purchasing printed reprints of articles and making the entire content of specific articles downloadable on the web by the authors’ request.
If you are interested in these optional services, see details.

General Scope
General Scope
The Bulletin of the Chemical Society of Japan (BCSJ) is devoted to the publication of scientific research papers in the fields of Theoretical and Physical Chemistry, Analytical and Inorganic Chemistry, Organic and Biological Chemistry, and Applied and Materials Chemistry. Three kinds of papers are published: Accounts, Articles, and Short Articles. BCSJ appears online in advance: Advanced on-line publication appears after about a week from acceptance for authors wishing to publish in advance. Authors who submit papers should bear this in mind.
A manuscript submitted to BCSJ for publication should be original. It should not have been previously published and should not be under consideration for publication elsewhere. The Chemical Society of Japan (CSJ) does not accept any substitution of the submitted manuscripts.
Authors must inform the Editor-in-Chief of papers in print, submitted, or to be submitted soon that have content relevant to those of the paper being submitted to BCSJ. Both color printing and PDF reprints are provided free of charge.
Types of Papers
Accounts & Reviews
Account and Review articles are contributions of overview with perspectives of active research areas with current interest. The contents of the Accounts may be largely from the author's own laboratory. Review articles include balanced descriptions of research developments by a wide range of the research community, to which the author's own specialist views are added. Guidelines for manuscript preparation will be provided from the BCSJ editorial office.
Award Accounts
Recipients of specific awards administered by the CSJ are requested to contribute Award Accounts to BCSJ based on their outstanding accomplishments: They include The CSJ Award, The CSJ Award for Creative Work, and The CSJ Award for Young Chemists.
CSJ Accounts
Contributed Account or Review articles by authors who wish to contribute them are highly welcome.
Articles
Articles are original research papers describing meaningful studies that are complete. However, Articles may contain results already published in journals for rapid publication such as Chemistry Letters.
