Review Article [by invitation only]:Word limit 3500 words (excluding the abstract, tables, figure legends and references), with up to 8 tables/figures and up to 100 references.Always invited by the Editor-in-Chief; authors interested in writing review articles should initially contact the Editor-in-Chief. Review Articles focus on recent scientific or advances in areas of interest to clinical and laboratory hematologists. They must be concise and critical yet comprehensive and should be appropriately referenced. All Review Articles are rigorously peer reviewed before a final publication decision is made. Involvement of any person or research directly supported by the pharmaceutical industry is not acceptable in writing of Review Articles.
Original Articles [formerly known as Original Research]: Word limit 2500 words (excluding the abstract, tables, figure legends and references), with up to 5 tables/figures and up to 50 references. Organize article into a structured Abstract (maximum 250 words), Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, References, Tables, Legends to Figures, Figures. Acknowledgements should go into the separate Title Page file.
Short Research Communication [includes the former categories of Brief Original Research and Technical note]:Word limit 1200 words (excluding the structured 200 word abstract, tables, figure legends and references), with up to 3 tables/figures and up to 20 references. Research findings too brief/preliminary to be published as original articles. Please note individual case reports cannot be submitted in this section. Case series may however be submitted, especially those describing novel approaches to therapy or presenting new information. Sections should be organized as for Original Research.
Images in Hematology:Word limit 200 words (excluding the abstract, tables, figure legends and references), with up to 2 tables/figures with up to 2 references.Images displaying a single clinical / pathological case or entity and conveying a message or learning point can be published as image in hematology. Up to 2 microscopic images, clinical photographs, radiological images, graphical/visual instrument outputs etc. may be included in each article. Images should be accompanied by a brief unstructured write-up. No abstract is required.
My Approach to Treatment/Diagnosis [by invitation only]: Word limit 3000 words (excluding the abstract, tables, figure legends and references), with up to 6 tables/figures and up to 50 references.These are usually invited by the Editor-in-Chief. Authors interested in writing unsolicited articles in this category should first contact the Editor-in-Chief. Articles written by experts illustrating up-to-date clinical, management or diagnostic approaches to hematological entities or situations. Preferably, “My approach to Treatment/Diagnosis” articles are single-authored, and should open with an educative or typical clinical case. Articles having more than one author must be explicitly pre-approved by the Editor-in-Chief before submission. The article should include an abstract of up to 250 words. Article structure can be varied. Involvement of any person or research directly supported by the pharmaceutical industry is not acceptable in writing of “My approach to Treatment/Diagnosis” articles.
Research Letter / Correspondence:Word limit 600 words with up to 1 figure and up to 5 references.Brief letters either commenting on published articles in the journal, presenting brief data or describing interesting cases can be submitted. Correspondence submissions should begin with “Dear Editor” and are subjected to the usual peer-review process. No abstract is required.
Editorial:Word limit 750 words with up to 5 references. Invited by the Editor-in-Chief, these are brief commentaries on important original articles published in that issue of the journal. Occasionally, Editorials may address major developments or happenings in the field of hematology. Figures and tables are usually not included in this article type.
