Guide for Authors
Information Processing Letters invites submission of original research articles that focus on fundamental aspects of information processing and computing. This naturally includes work in the broadly understood field of theoretical computer science; although papers in all areas of scientific inquiry will be given consideration, provided that they describe research contributions credibly motivated by applications to computing and involve rigorous methodology. High quality experimental papers that address topics of sufficiently broad interest may also be considered.
Since its inception in 1971, Information Processing Letters has served as a forum for timely dissemination of short, concise and focused research contributions. Continuing with this tradition, and to expedite the reviewing process, manuscripts are generally limited in length to nine pages when they appear in print. The editors have the authority to make exceptions to this limit, if it's justified by the technical content of the paper.
The acceptance/rejection decisions are made based on the strength and novelty of the papers technical contribution, the relevance to IPL's topics of interest, its likely impact, as well as on the quality of presentation. In order to reach wide audience and facilitate the review process, the introductory part of the paper must contain a clear explanation, in relatively accessible language, of the merits and context of its scientific contribution. All submissions must be written in grammatically correct English and its technical presentation must follow standard conventions for mathematical writing. Papers that do not meet these requirements may be rejected without peer review.
Submission checklist
You can use this list to carry out a final check of your submission before you send it to the journal for review. Please check the relevant section in this Guide for Authors for more details.
IPL policy on solutions of major open problems.
Our journal periodically receives submissions claiming solutions of the P=NP problem or other major open problems in the area of theoretical computer science. Authors planning to submit such a paper must first contact the Editor-in-Chief and receive a permission for submitting their paper. Without an explicit permission, such papers will be rejected. In general, authors will be allowed to make only one such submission in any 24 month period.
Ensure that the following items are present:
