IEICE Transactions on Communications
Information for Authors
The information described herein is subject to change without prior notification. [Last Revised on April 1, 2021]
1. General guidelines
1.1 Type of manuscript
The manuscripts published in the Transaction are categorized as PAPER or WRITTEN DISCUSSION. PAPER is further classified into (regular) PAPER, SURVEY PAPER, or POSITION PAPER.
1.1.1 PAPER
PAPER: Includes reports on research, developments, and examinations for the specific fields shown in the category list such as detailed below, the contents of which may advance the development of science and industry:
(1) Reports on new theories, experiments with new contents, or extensions of and supplements to conventional theories and experiments.
(2) Reports on development of measurement technology and various applied technologies.
(3) Reports on the planning, design, manufacture, testing, or operation of facilities, machinery, parts, materials, etc.
(4) Presentation of new methods, suggestion of new angles, ideas, systematization, software, or any new facts regarding the above (1) to (3).
SURVEY PAPER: Includes the following, targeting the same range and content as the PAPER:
(5) Reports that reflect a set understanding of the field involved, and effectively respond to inquiries from researchers or other involved parties about the significance of the field. In short, reports that support entries by new researchers, development by on-site researchers and applications by involved parties in that field.
(6) Reports that differ from tutorials (explanatory articles appearing in journals) in that they demand a high caliber of technical knowledge. In short, reports that envision readers as specialists in the field, place their focus on classification of existing documents, provide overviews of the field, evaluate the latest trends and cover other areas in that field.
(7) Reports targeting major and large-scale fields (areas in which numerous readers have an interest) that effectively develop a basic framework or overall image of that field. In short, summary introductions that will hopefully encourage new research and otherwise supply readers with high-level assessments of the field, while systematically presenting existing research from a set perspective.
POSITION PAPER: Defined as articles with at least one of the following features, potentially having a significant influence to the theory and practice of communication technology.
(8) Introduction of novel viewpoints, frameworks, and/or paradigms
(9) Proposal of technologies or methods based on innovative ideas (not just extension of existing technologies)
(10) Novel ideas with the potential to bring about innovative technologies
(11) Prototyping or experimental results with noteworthy features, such as achievement of the world's best performance or the world's first realization
Comprehensive evaluations of the proposed viewpoints, frameworks, paradigms, or ideas are not necessarily required. In view of this criterion, POSITION PAPERs are assumed to be shorter (around 6 pages) than PAPERs (standard number of pages is 8), although there is no restriction on the number of pages.
* Published POSITION PAPERs are available by open access through the website of the IEICE Transactions on Communications.
1.1.2 WRITTEN DISCUSSION
To submit opinions on articles published in the Transaction, articles that aim to raise readers' critical intellect through completely objective discussions.
1.2 Scope
The IEICE Transactions on Communications is an all-electronic journal published occasionally by the Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers (IEICE) and edited by the Communications Society in IEICE. The IEICE Transactions on Communications publishes original, peer-reviewed papers that embrace the entire field of communications, including:
- Fundamental Theories for Communications
- Energy in Electronics Communications
- Transmission Systems and Transmission Equipment for Communications
- Optical Fiber for Communications
- Fiber-Optic Transmission for Communications
- Network System
- Network
- Internet
- Network Management/Operation
- Antennas and Propagation
- Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC)
- Wireless Communication Technologies
- Terrestrial Wireless Communication/Broadcasting Technologies
- Satellite Communications
- Sensing
- Navigation, Guidance and Control Systems
- Space Utilization Systems for Communications
- Multimedia Systems for Communication
Military technology is out of the scope of the IEICE Transactions on Communications. The IEICE Transactions on Communications does not reject a submission by reason of the source of research funding and/or the affiliation of authors. If necessary, the IEICE Transactions on Communications negotiates with authors.
1.3 Recommendation for non-members to join the IEICE
If there are non-members among the authors, we recommend that the authors take this opportunity to join the IEICE. For detailed information on the IEICE Membership Application, refer to here. If all authors are non-members, the article processing charge for non-members will be applied, except for invited papers. We also note that OMDP (Overseas Membership Development Program in Section 5.2) is not applied if all authors are non-members.
1.4 Originality of manuscript
1.4.1 Copyright Compliance
(1) Obey the IEICE Provisions on Copyright.
(2) Do not submit content identical or extremely similar to material that has already appeared under the name of another author(s). Do not reproduce copyrighted material without the permission of the copyright holder.
(3) Even if you are the author(s) of a manuscript, do not submit it if copyright problems exist, for example, if the copyright is held by a body other than the IEICE and cannot be transferred to the IEICE.
(4) In cases deemed to comprise plagiarism, penalties identical to those assessed in the event of duplicate submission shall be applied.
