IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Magazine
Scope
The IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Magazine (ITSM) publishes peer-reviewed articles that provide innovative research ideas and application results, report significant application case studies, and raise awareness of pressing research and application challenges in all areas of intelligent transportation systems. In contrast to the highly academic publication of the IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems, the ITS Magazine focuses on providing needed information to all members of IEEE ITS society, serving as a dissemination vehicle for ITS Society members and the others to learn the state-of-the-art development and progress on ITS research and applications. High quality tutorials, surveys, successful implementations, technology reviews, lessons learned, policy and societal impacts, and ITS educational issues are published as well. ITS Magazine also serves as an ideal media communication vehicle between the governing body of ITS society and its membership and promotes ITS community development and growth.
Topics
The Magazine addresses a range of ITS focused topics including:
Road, Rail, Air, and Water Transportation Systems
Integration of Multi-modal Transportation Systems
Transportation Systems Data Mining
Sensor Data Processing, Analysis and Visualization
Infrastructure Sensors and On-board Vehicle Sensors
Communication (V2V, V2I)
Social, Economic, and Environmental impact
Field Trials & Results Validation Reports
Control (Traffic and Vehicle)
Decision Systems
Human-Machine Interfaces
Reliability and Safety
Standards & Public Policies
Technology Forecast & Transfer
Artificial Intelligence Technologies for ITS [This topic appears as a separate section of the Magazine and is publishing short peer-reviewed papers only]
ITS Magazine is also interested in publishing futuristic views on transportation systems and a vision on how transportation scenarios may look like and operate in the distant future. Submissions from industry practitioners on field trials and validation of results from deployment of ITS solutions, products and systems are highly sought after.
In addition to its task of publishing the best source of reference in the ITS field, the IEEE – ITS Magazine also publishes a variety of news of interest to ITS Society members.
Paper Submission Types
Authors may submit
Regular Research Papers
If you wish to submit your new theory, or an algorithm, which is underpinned with data obtained only through simulation or modelling, you will receive advice from us to consider submitting your manuscript to one of our sister periodicals, namely, Transactions on ITS and/or Transactions on IV.
Otherwise, we will gladly initiate the review process of your manuscript if it provides a technical insight into your theory, or your algorithm, and is underpinned by data from experimental and/or field testings including the validity analysis.
Short Research Papers (only for submissions to the section on “Artificial Intelligence Technologies for ITS”)
Tutorials
Surveys Papers
Technical Reports on Successful Field Trials and Deployments
Papers on Policy and/or Educational Issues
Your manuscript should provide a practical insight into, and address unique challenges and experiences from, implementing a new policy or an educational concept. It is recommended to include suggestions on further needed adjustments of the current technical solution(s) in order to make them implementable and able to resolve the issue(s). Your manuscript will not be favorable considered if it tends to offer a concept level observation & discussion only.
Review Papers on Emerging Trends in the field of interest to ITSS
Papers on ITS Technology Reviews & Advancements, including ITS-focused Artificial Intelligence
All paper types, including those submitted to the section on “Artificial Intelligence Technologies for ITS” are reviewed by independent reviewers. The Editorial Board makes paper acceptance decisions. Currently, approx. 23% of all manuscripts submitted to IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Magazine are accepted for publishing.
In addition to publishing peer-reviewed papers, the Magazine also includes:
Editor-in-Chief’s column (Ljubo Vlacic, l.vlacic@griffith.edu.au)
President’s column (Wei-Bin Zhang, wbzhang@berkeley.edu)
Book Review column (TBA)
ITS Society Conferences column (Editor: Brendan Morris, brendan.morris@unlv.edu)
ITS Society Technical Activities column (Editor: Yaobin Chen, ychen@iupui.edu)
ITS Research Lab Spotlight column (Editor: Yisheng Lv, yisheng.lv@ia.ac.cn)
ITS People column (Editor: Asad Hoque, hoquema@tsu.edu)
PhD/MPhil Theses column (Editors: Fernando Garcia Fernandez, fegarcia@ing.uc3m.es; and Zhixiong Li, zhixiong@iastate.edu)
ITS Society News Column (Ljubo Vlacic, l.vlacic@griffith.edu.au)
Conference Calendar (Editor: Martin Lauer, martin.lauer@kit.edu)
Paper Submission Information
The Paper Page Excess Fee Policy
All paper types submitted on/after 01 January 2019 are subject to this policy.
The paper page excess fee applies to accepted papers only.
The decision to charge authors an excess page fee will be established based on the number of printed paper pages in the Magazine. The number of pages in the printed paper are dependent on many factors such as whether final files include compressed figures with hard to read labels and/or compressed images and non-readable tables, etc. In such cases, pages are redesigned and/or adapted for readability and magazine style. Consequently, a number of pages in the printed paper may be higher than the number of the paper pages included in the final file. The bill will be sent to authors only after their paper is included in the print issue.
The paper page excess fee of $100USD per excess page will apply.
No paper page excess fee will apply if:
Regular Research Paper consists of up to 8 pages
Short Research Paper consists of up to 4 pages
Review Paper consists of up to 12 pages
Practitioner Paper consists of up to 12 pages
The corresponding author will be requested to make a payment.
No extension of the set payment deadline will be granted.
