Submission guidelines
Instructions for Authors
Manuscript Submission
Submission of a manuscript implies: that the work described has not been published before; that it is not under consideration for publication anywhere else; that its publication has been approved by all co-authors, if any, as well as by the responsible authorities – tacitly or explicitly – at the institute where the work has been carried out. The publisher will not be held legally responsible should there be any claims for compensation.
Permissions
Authors wishing to include figures, tables, or text passages that have already been published elsewhere are required to obtain permission from the copyright owner(s) for both the print and online format and to include evidence that such permission has been granted when submitting their papers. Any material received without such evidence will be assumed to originate from the authors.
Online Submission
Please follow the hyperlink “Submit manuscript” on the right and upload all of your manuscript files following the instructions given on the screen.
Please ensure you provide all relevant editable source files. Failing to submit these source files might cause unnecessary delays in the review and production process.
Article Types
Wetlands Ecology and Management publishes refereed papers on topics relevant to freshwater, brackish and marine coastal wetland ecosystems. Such topics may span wetlands science, management, policy and economics. The journal encourages the publication of papers from all geographical regions of the world, including those areas traditionally underrepresented in the literature.
Book reviews, notices of scientific meetings and special issues, arising from chosen scientific symposia or workshops, or as a collection of papers on special topics, will also be considered for publication. From time-to-time, the journal also entertains special issues on particularly timely and relevant topics that may be submitted in consultation with the editor-in-chief. All contributions are reviewed by minimally two specialist referees, a subject editor, and the editors-in-chief.
All manuscripts should be structured according to the Instructions for Authors.
Original research articles are typically less than 8,000 words in length with 4-9 figures and tables. Note that the word count includes all text words and display captions, but not the references or title page. While there are no strict minimum or maximum limits, excessively long manuscripts are unlikely to be sent out for review. The writing style should be concise and consistently relevant.
Wetlands Ecology and Management will publish Invited Feature Articles. These can be longer than the normal original research articles, possibly up to 8,000 words. Invited Feature Articles are by invitation. Authors interested to submit such articles should first contact the Editor-in-Chief Dr. Eric Wolanski with their proposal. Invited Feature articles provide an overview, or a synthesis, of new insights in a field of science. They are not a review of a particular topic of science. Invited Feature Articles will figure prominently in the journal and will be highlighted by an Editorial and given a free access for a period of three months.
In addition, the journal also accepts short communications which are no longer than 4,000 words, 30 references and three figures or tables, and regular review articles (8,000) which can be submitted after an initial contact with the reviews editor.
Letter to the Editor (1,000) expressing opinions or criticisms drawing attention to issues of concern, or pointing out errors or inadequacies in Original Research articles published in this journal, are welcome. They can be controversial, but need to cite supporting evidence for views expressed.
The word count should include title, abstract, keywords, body of the text, figures, and tables but excluding authors affiliations, references and on-line supplementary material.
Topical Collections
The Editors-in-Chief of Wetlands Ecology and Management journal may pick selected articles and allocate them to particular topics (like Biogeochemistry, Climate change, Disturbance, Flora, Fauna, etc.). These tagged articles will be brought together on SpringerLink in topical collections, easily accessible online as a service for our readers. Articles of such online collections will be processed and published in regular issues just like all other articles.
