Cover Letter一般指初稿提交时附上的介绍信，包括期刊名称、手稿标题和新颖性介绍等，也有学者会把初稿阶段的Cover Letter和返修阶段的Revised Letter都统称为Cover (covering) Letter。
这两者有什么区别？该怎么准备呢？

Cover Letter
典型的Cover Letter包括以下几个方面：
最关键的部分是第二段，也就是新颖性/重要性的陈述。以下是一个案例：

这是提交特刊的一封Cover Letter（平时投稿可以比这个写得更丰富），第二段的写作思路可借鉴：
在我们的手稿中，我们回顾了……最新进展（在过去5-10年），其中包括……我们采取了一种独特的方法，介绍了……主题的整体情况……我们还回顾了……此外，我们还向读者提供了……这是……所必需的……。特别是最后一个主题，在目前该领域的研究中非常缺少……阻碍了……
以下是Cover Letter第二段需要包括的方面：
√ 这项工作为什么重要？
建议：比如，强调新的测量、新的诊断方法或标准、新发现的生理机制。
√ 这项工作如何推进该领域的现有知识？
建议：描述该领域的当前知识状态，阐明这项工作如何通过回答以前未回答的问题、找到问题的解决方案或改进现有方法来展现价值。
√ 描述手稿如何跟随期刊的出版趋势/为什么能吸引读者？
建议：查看期刊上最近发表的类似主题的论文，了解期刊的收录范围和喜好，强调为什么手稿会吸引杂志的读者。合适的措辞：
We believe that this manuscript is appropriate for publication by [期刊名称] since it… [参考期刊目标和范围]

Revised Letter
Revised Letter伴随着修订后的手稿一起提交。
第一段可以用感谢的话语开头：
We would like to thank you for the opportunity to revise and resubmit our manuscript（你的手稿编号）.We sincerely appreciate all the valuable comments and suggestions made, which helped us improve the revised version of our manuscript.
之后，总结自己修改了哪些内容，修订的方式是什么，并对评审意见进行了点对点回复。比如：
We have incorporated most of the suggestions made by the reviewers. Those changes are highlighted within the manuscript. Please see below, in blue, for a point-by-point response to the reviewers’ comments and concerns. All page numbers refer to the revised manuscript file with tracked changes.
结尾可以表示希望手稿修订版能被接受，尽早收到回复等常规用语。
We hope that the revised version of our manuscript is now acceptable to the reviewers, and suitable for publication in the [期刊名称], we look forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience.
