Instructions for Authors
AIMS AND SCOPE
Biotechnology and Bioprocess Engineering is an international bimonthly journal published by the Korean Society for Biotechnology and Bioengineering. BBE is devoted to the advancement in science and technology in the wide area of biotechnology, bioengineering, and (bio)medical engineering. This includes but is not limited to applied molecular and cell biology, engineered biocatalysis and biotransformation, metabolic engineering and systems biology, bioseparation and bioprocess engineering, cell culture technology, environmental and food biotechnology, pharmaceutics and biopharmaceutics, biomaterials engineering, nanobiotechnology, and biosensor and bioelectronics.
Editors of BBE appreciate contributions from all relevant fields, but the contributions classified as "Research Articles" should report the significant advancement of knowledge and/or technology. The spread of advanced knowledge will benefit researchers and practitioners in academia, industry, and healthcare fields. The other type of contributions is "Reviews". Review articles are either solicited by Editors ("Invited Review") or unsolicited ("Review"). All submitted manuscripts are subjected to reviews by peers.

Plagiarisms
The journal uses plagiarism detection software to screen the submissions. If plagiarism is identified, the COPE guidelines on plagiarism will be followed.
Review process
Content published in this journal is peer reviewed (Single Blind).
Disclosures
Authors should disclose information regarding the funding source(s), potential conflict of interest, compliance with the institutional ethical guideline when animals are involved in the research, or consent information of the use of human participants' data and/or biological material(s).
MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSION
General Requirements and Responsibilities
BBE adopts the "Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts (URM)" set and updated by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), which can be found at http://www.icmje.org/. Authors, Editors, and Reviewers should understand their roles and responsibilities throughout the publication process, which can be found at http://www.icmje.org/recommendations/browse/roles-and-responsibilities/responsibilities-in-the-submission-and-peer-peview-process.html. Contributions are accepted on the understanding that the authors have obtained the necessary authority for publication. Submission of an article is understood to imply that the article is original and unpublished and is not being considered for publication elsewhere. All papers will be critically read by multiple reviewers who will be selected for their competence in the subject of matter of the paper. However, the executive editorial board may decide not to recommend a certain submission for further reviews by peer reviewers after pre-assessment to keep the speed and quality of publication rapid and high.

Page Costs
Papers selected for publication in BBE are subjected to a page charge of $50 per printed journal page. Additional charges are assessed for color figures. Authors will be charged $150 per color figure. Page charges are exempted if the research was conducted, AND the paper was submitted outside Korea. These papers cannot acknowledge financial support(s) from the Korean governmental, industrial or academic institution. You can publish one article without having to pay the page cost if you had completed two reviews in the previous calendar year.
Types of Manuscripts
Research Articles are research reports of new findings. These papers should not exceed 30 double-spaced pages of text (not including the title and reference pages) and contain a precise description and interpretation of research. Reviews are critical assessments of relevant topics of contemporary interest. These papers should not exceed 60 double-spaced pages of text.
Title Page
The title page of the article should be followed in the order of title, the authors’s name and affiliations and the full correspondence address including telephone, fax, e-mail, etc. The main title should be concise, descriptive and informative to the subject of manuscript and should not exceed more than 150 characters. The running title should be restricted to 50 characters.
Abstract and Keywords
Provide an abstract which states concisely the objectives and the results of the paper in not more than 250 words. It must be a brief and factual account of contents, conclusions, and relevance of the findings with an emphasis on what readers will gain from the manuscript. Do not cite any reference in the abstract. A list of 4-6 keywords for a subject index should be included on this page.
