The Review Process

After submission, manuscripts are first checked by the Editorial Office. This includes checking for any problems with scope, submission information, formatting, standard of writing, copyright issues, and plagiarism. All submitted manuscripts are checked for plagiarism using iThenticate.

Manuscripts which pass the Editorial Office check are assigned to one of our Reviewing Editors. The Reviewing Editors are all Editorial Board members, and experts in their fields. The Reviewing Editor for an article first assesses the general quality of the article and decides whether or not to send it for peer review. If it does not fit the journal’s scope or meet basic quality criteria, it is rejected without further review. If it is sent for peer review, the Reviewing Editor usually invites 1 or 2 expert reviewers. If the Reviewing Editor wants more input, more reviewers may be invited. The Reviewing Editor may also act as a peer reviewer. We use a single-blind review process: reviewers know who the authors are, but authors do not know who the reviewers are.

After receiving the reviewer reports, the Reviewing Editor can decide to reject the article, ask for minor or major revisions, or recommend acceptance. If revisions are asked for, authors should submit the revised version of the article within 2 months of receiving the decision letter. Revised articles are usually sent to the original reviewers for further review, but for minor revisions the Reviewing Editor may choose not to send it for further review, if he/she considers the revisions satisfactory.

If the Reviewing Editor recommends acceptance, the manuscript is sent to one of the Associate Editors-in-Chief for a final decision. At this stage, the Associate Editor-in-Chief may decide to reject, ask for further revisions, or accept the article.

After Acceptance

After a paper is accepted, and source files and copyright forms (or SCOAP3 licence forms) are received, the article is assigned to an issue and a DOI prepared. The language is then edited by a native English speaker, before typesetting and copy-editing. Authors are asked to check the proofs before publication. The final print-ready articles appear online first, in the “Issues in Press” section of the website, before print publication.

Author Fees

For articles funded by SCOAP3, there are no page fees or other charges. For non-SCOAP3 articles submitted by authors from institutions outside the Chinese mainland, there are no page fees or other charges. For non-SCOAP3 articles submitted by authors from institutions within the Chinese mainland, page fees apply if an article is accepted. There are no other charges.

Copyright

For articles funded by SCOAP3, copyright is retained by the author, and the article is published Open Access with a CC-BY licence. The publishers are granted an exclusive licence to publish the article under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 licence (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/). For non-SCOAP3 articles, copyright for the article is transferred to the journal and the article is available to subscribers. The authors retain the right to use the article for scholarly purposes, including personal and internal institutional use.

arXiv Preprints

We recommend that all authors submit their manuscripts to the relevant sections of arXiv at http://arxiv.org or http://cn.arxiv.org, specifying ‘Submitted to Chinese Physics C’ in the header of the first page of the article.

For high energy physics articles in the hep-ex, hep-ph, hep-th and hep-lat categories, if you would like to qualify for SCOAP3 funding, you must submit your manuscript to arXiv and provide us with the arXiv number. Please send the arXiv number for your article to the CPC Editorial Office at cpc@ihep.ac.cn.

Publication Schedule

Chinese Physics C is published monthly. Accepted articles may appear online before publication of the print version.

Access to old manuscript system

From January 2016, we changed to a new manuscript system. If you have manuscripts in the old system (manuscript IDs 2016-0015 and earlier), you can check these here:
