Instructions for authors
About the Journal
Fetal and Pediatric Pathology is an international, peer-reviewed journal publishing high-quality, original research. Please see the journal's Aims & Scope for information about its focus and peer-review policy.
Please note that this journal only publishes manuscripts in English.
Fetal & Pediatric Pathology accepts the following types of submissions: original articles, case reports, editorials, review articles, annotated bibliographies, letters, book reviews, pathology teach and tell reports, and proceedings of clinicopathologic conferences. Case reports are published only if they provide new information or new insights into the histology of disease. Editorials, review articles, annotated bibliographies, letters, book reviews, pathology teach and tell reports, and proceedings of clinicopathologic conferences are published at the discretion of the Editor. Abstracts of pediatric pathology meetings and society announcements are published by prior arrangement with the Editor.
Images in Pathology. There are many images that we encounter in our practice of pediatric pathology that are “illustrative” “classic” or “unusual”. These images may be different kinds- an exceptional illustration of a common disease process, a common disease with an unusual presentation, and unusual histological features that may or may not have an adequate explanation. These share the common attribute that in and of themselves may not add additional knowledge to the literature, but are interesting enough that they should be shared with other pathologists. Please note that Images in Pathology are reviewed by the Editor rather than through external peer review.
Fetal and Pediatric Pathology is a forum to share these instructive images. These images should be submitted as color images (for on-line viewing), but must be such that the features represented be visible in black and white (for the printed journal). Figure files should be at least 300 dpi. Accompanying the figure should be a text of no longer than a half page, a legend, and up to 5 references.
Resident Page. In an effort to promote resident/ fellow experience in scholarly activity, Fetal and Pediatric Pathology offers a forum for these trainees- the Resident Page. The topics should include new or unusual observations, be relevant to the clinical and anatomic pediatric pathologists in their care and/or diagnoses of fetal and pediatric patients, be of limited scope, and include a limited review of the diagnostic criteria and differential diagnosis. Clinical history and presentations, laboratory findings, imaging studies, anatomic findings, and subsequent outcomes are appropriate components. The first author should be the trainee and this trainee should be responsible for composing the manuscript, and be responsible for further communication. A second author should be a responsible faculty. Inclusion of additional authors is discouraged and must be justified in the cover letter. These will be peer-reviewed as any other article in Fetal and Pediatric Pathology. Otherwise, instructions for submission are the same as other articles for Fetal and Pediatric Pathology.
