Guide for Authors

INTRODUCTION

Types of paper

Contributions falling into the following categories will be considered for publication: full length articles, original research papers, review articles, short communications, technical notes, editorials, book reviews, case reports, feature articles.

Please ensure that you select the appropriate article type from the list of options when making your submission. Authors contributing to special issues should ensure that they select the special issue article type from this list. Types of article

The Journal publishes Research Papers, Short Communications and Graphical Reviews. We support the "Your Paper Your Way" Elsevier guideline which allows authors to submit their main manuscript file without any formatting requirements.

Research Papers are not limited in size. However, we do strongly recommend to authors to be as succinct as possible in the best interest of the readers and the dissemination of the work. Short Communications should not contain more than 2 Figures and no more than 4000 words, double-spaced, Arial font, size 11.

Graphical Reviews (GRs) are a short, structured article type, which primarily use illustrative schematic summaries to convey only key concepts and novel ideas on a major research interest in the lab. GRs present an opportunity to succinctly showcase your research contributions within a wider overview of recent developments within a field. GRs are designed to communicate information in a visually appealing representation of the current state of research on a specific topic. The overall message should be accessible to a broad scientific audience. GRs have a format of 3-5 (color) schemes/figures, ideally formatted as easily downloadable (PowerPoint) slides or the like, for use by readers for educational purposes. The text body should provide the reader with 'backbone' information and context, connecting the material presented in the figures. GRs cannot include unpublished data, new hypotheses, formal mathematical models, or meta-analysis. GR article structure:

Abstract: up to 250 words

Body (exclusive of figure legends): up to 2000 words, double-spaced, Arial font, size 11

3-5 color schemes/figures summarizing the state of the specific topic covered. Each figure needs to be self-explanatory, including sufficient annotations to allow the readers to quickly grasp the content of the figure.

Figure legends must be straight to the point, providing additional details which deepen the message of the figure itself. Please ensure that the reader, who may not be a direct expert in the field, can easily grasp the information provided.

References: no more than 25 key articles that exemplify the most significant recent advances in the field.

Illustrations: Authors are expected to use their own illustration resources. They may also make use of Elsevier's https://webshop.elsevier.com/illustration-servicesIllustration Services to ensure the best presentation of their images, in accordance with all technical requirements.

Ethics in publishing

Please see our information on Ethics in publishing.

Declaration of interest

All authors must disclose any financial and personal relationships with other people or organizations that could inappropriately influence (bias) their work. Examples of potential competing interests include employment, consultancies, stock ownership, honoraria, paid expert testimony, patent applications/registrations, and grants or other funding. Authors must disclose any interests in two places: 1. A summary declaration of interest statement in the title page file (if double anonymized) or the manuscript file (if single anonymized). If there are no interests to declare then please state this: 'Declarations of interest: none'. 2. Detailed disclosures as part of a separate Declaration of Interest form, which forms part of the journal's official records. It is important for potential interests to be declared in both places and that the information matches. More information.

Submission declaration and verification

Submission of an article implies that the work described has not been published previously (except in the form of an abstract, a published lecture or academic thesis, see 'Multiple, redundant or concurrent publication' for more information), that it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere, that its publication is approved by all authors and tacitly or explicitly by the responsible authorities where the work was carried out, and that, if accepted, it will not be published elsewhere in the same form, in English or in any other language, including electronically without the written consent of the copyright-holder. To verify originality, your article may be checked by the originality detection service Crossref Similarity Check.

Changes to authorship

This policy concerns the addition, deletion, or rearrangement of author names in the authorship of accepted manuscripts:

Before the accepted manuscript is published in an online issue: Requests to add or remove an author, or to rearrange the author names, must be sent to the Journal Manager from the corresponding author of the accepted manuscript and must include: (a) the reason the name should be added or removed, or the author names rearranged and (b) written confirmation (e-mail, fax, letter) from all authors that they agree with the addition, removal or rearrangement. In the case of addition or removal of authors, this includes confirmation from the author being added or removed. Requests that are not sent by the corresponding author will be forwarded by the Journal Manager to the corresponding author, who must follow the procedure as described above. Note that: (1) Journal Managers will inform the Journal Editors of any such requests and (2) publication of the accepted manuscript in an online issue is suspended until authorship has been agreed.

After the accepted manuscript is published in an online issue: Any requests to add, delete, or rearrange author names in an article published in an online issue will follow the same policies as noted above and result in a corrigendum.

Copyright

Upon acceptance of an article, authors will be asked to complete a 'Journal Publishing Agreement'. Acceptance of the agreement will ensure the widest possible dissemination of information. An e-mail will be sent to the corresponding author confirming receipt of the manuscript together with a 'Journal Publishing Agreement' form or a link to the online version of this agreement.

Access Rights

All articles published open access will be immediately and permanently free for everyone to read, download, copy and distribute.

User Rights

Permitted third party reuse is defined by the following user license:

Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs (CC BY-NC-ND):

Allows users to copy and distribute the Article, provided this is not done for commercial purposes and further does not permit distribution of the Article if it is changed or edited in any way, and provided the user gives appropriate credit (with a link to the formal publication through the relevant DOI), provides a link to the license, and that the licensor is not represented as endorsing the use made of the work. The full details of the license are available at https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/.

Author rights

For open access publishing this journal uses a licensing agreement. Authors will transfer copyright to Xi'an Jiaotong University, but will have the right to share their article in the same way permitted to third parties under the relevant user license, as well as certain scholarly usage rights.

Role of the funding source

You are requested to identify who provided financial support for the conduct of the research and/or preparation of the article and to briefly describe the role of the sponsor(s), if any, in study design; in the collection, analysis and interpretation of data; in the writing of the report; and in the decision to submit the article for publication. If the funding source(s) had no such involvement then this should be stated.

Open access

Every peer-reviewed research article appearing in this journal will be published open access. This means that the article is universally and freely accessible via the internet in perpetuity, in an easily readable format immediately after publication. The author does not have any publication charges for open access. The Xi'an Jiaotong University will pay to make the article open access.

A CC user license manages the reuse of the article (see https://www.elsevier.com/openaccesslicenses). All articles will be published under the following license:

Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs (CC BY-NC-ND)

For non-commercial purposes, lets others distribute and copy the article, and to include in a collective work (such as an anthology), as long as they credit the author(s) and provided they do not alter or modify the article.

Language (usage and editing services)

Please write your text in good English (American or British usage is accepted, but not a mixture of these). Authors who feel their English language manuscript may require editing to eliminate possible grammatical or spelling errors and to conform to correct scientific English may wish to use the English Language Editing service available from Elsevier's Author Services.

Submission

Submission to this journal proceeds totally online. Use the following guidelines to prepare your article. Via the homepage of this journal (http://www.keaipublishing.com/en/journals/Information-technology-and-Data Management/) you will be guided stepwise through the creation and uploading of the various files. The system automatically converts source files to a single Adobe Acrobat PDF version of the article, which is used in the peer-review process. Please note that even though manuscript source files are converted to PDF at submission for the review process, these source files are needed for further processing after acceptance. All correspondence, including notification of the Editor's decision and requests for revision, takes place by e-mail and via the author's homepage, removing the need for a hard-copy paper trail. If you are unable to provide an electronic version, please contact the editorial office prior to submission [e-mail: dsm@xjtu.edu.cn; telephone: +86-29-88968307].
