Journal of Ocean University of China is an academic journal in the field of marine sciences, supervised by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China and sponsored by Ocean University of China. It is published bimonthly and distributed domestically and internationally.
1. Aims and Scope
The journal publishes the latest research findings in marine science and engineering, covering areas such as physical oceanography, marine meteorology, marine aquaculture, marine biology, marine engineering, marine environmental science, marine remote sensing, marine information science, and marine medicine.
2. Submission Online
The paper must be submitted in .doc, .docx, or .pdf format according to the requirements of the journal.
1) Authors should submit their papers through the “Submit Manuscript” section on the journal’s website or directly via https://mc03.manuscriptcentral.com/jouc.
2) Once all submissions are complete, the first author and corresponding author cannot be changed under any circumstances.
3) Authors must recommend at least four reviewers at the professor level, including a minimum of two international experts. For each recommended reviewer, please provide their affiliation, research field, and email address.
3. Copyright Notice
Once a manuscript is submitted—regardless of whether it originates from within China or abroad—it is protected under the Copyright Law of the People’s Republic of China, with copyright protection taking effect from the date of receipt. If the manuscript is later withdrawn or rejected by the editorial office, the author is free to submit it to another journal.
4. Academic Integrity
Plagiarism and multiple submissions are strictly prohibited. All manuscripts will be screened using CrossCheck and Academic Misconduct Literature Check (AMLC). Submissions that have already been published in Chinese or other language journals will also be treated as cases of multiple submissions.
If academic misconduct is identified, the editorial office will notify the relevant departments of the authors’ institutions, and all listed authors will be barred from submitting to the journal for a period of five years.
Authors must properly cite all referenced work and clearly indicate the sources.
5. Author Declarations
Authors must provide statements regarding the following, as applicable: author contributions, data availability, ethical approval for animal experiments, consent for publication, and conflict of interest. Please refer to the sample manuscript for specific formatting and examples.
6. Review Process and Timeline
After undergoing preliminary review, peer review, and editorial board review, authors will receive one of the following outcomes: acceptance, acceptance with minor revisions, major revision (subject to re-review), or rejection. The typical review cycle takes approximately 3 months.
However, review times may vary due to reviewers’ other professional commitments, and the editorial office cannot guarantee a fixed timeline. Authors may contact the editorial office via email or phone to inquire about the status of their submission if needed.
Authors may request to withdraw their manuscript at any stage before acceptance by notifying the editorial office. Once an acceptance letter is issued, withdrawal is no longer permitted.
7. Acceptance and Conditions
For manuscripts deemed acceptable following the editorial decision, a formal acceptance letter will be issued only after the revised version has been received and assessed. Issuance of the acceptance letter indicates that the journal acknowledges the scientific merit of the work and that it meets the journal’s publication standards.
However, if the author fails to cooperate with subsequent revisions or production requirements, the editorial office reserves the right to revoke the acceptance letter and notify the relevant departments of the author’s institution to formally withdraw the manuscript.
8. Withdrawal and Rejection
A manuscript may be withdrawn or rejected under the following circumstances: 1) The content of the submission falls outside the scope of the journal and is withdrawn after preliminary review. 2) The author voluntarily requests withdrawal after submission and is agreed by the editorial office. 3) The manuscript fails to pass peer review and is formally rejected by the editorial office. 4) The manuscript is returned for revision, but no response is received from the author within six months; in this case, the submission will be considered withdrawn by default. Please note that in all cases of withdrawal or rejection, the review fee is non-refundable.
9. English Language Review
After passing peer review, all accepted manuscripts must undergo an English language review to ensure clarity, grammar, and academic writing standards. Once the English review and the editor-in-chief’s final review are completed, the manuscript will proceed to the typesetting stage.
10. Fee Schedule
1) Foreign manuscripts are free of charge, and no honorariums are paid.
2) Review Fee: RMB 200, payable upon submission. Once the manuscript is successfully submitted, it enters the review process. the review fee will not be refunded, regardless of whether the author withdraws the manuscript or the editorial office rejects/withdraws it.
3) Page Charge: RMB 600 per page, capped at RMB 6,000. Payment is due before publication or online publication.
4) Color Figure Fee: An additional charge of RMB 300 per article applies for color figures to cover production costs.
