Project description

We are looking for an enthusiastic, committed, and responsible chemist (MSc or equivalent) for an innovative project in the field of supramolecular capsule catalysis.

The Tiefenbacher group is an international and interdisciplinary group whose lab is located at the Rosental Campus of the University of Basel. You will work on the newly discovered proton-wire mechanism inside a supramolecular capsule (see key reference below). We are convinced that this project will have a substantial impact on the general field of catalysis, as supramolecular capsule catalysis enables selectivities not observed with traditional catalysis concepts. Furthermore, supramolecular catalysis involving this proton-wire mechanism may also contribute to the development of biomimetic, “greener" chemistry that works under mild reaction conditions, without the need for strong Lewis or Brønsted acidic activating agents, or highly reactive nucleophiles.

Selection criteria

Candidates are required to have an MS degree in chemistry (or equivalent), with a very solid background in synthetic organic chemistry. Prior experience in supramolecular chemistry is not required, but a plus.
