PhD project in single crystal perovskite fibres: growth and properties
Applications are invited for a Queen Mary University of London – China Scholarship Council PhD studentship starting from October 2023 to work in the group of Dr Stoichko Dimitrov in collaboration with Dr Lei Su.
Project.
Organic-inorganic perovskite semiconductors have become very attractive for optical and opto-electronic applications due to their unique properties. Recently, Lei Su’s group reported the growth of the first single crystal perovskite fibres.[1] This breakthrough opens possibilities to grow other types of pseudo one-dimensional perovskite single crystals and tune the fibre optical and electronic properties for applications in PV, lasing and communication. However, understanding the mechanism of growth and the fundamental photophysical and photochemical properties of such single crystals is far from complete, which is limiting developments. The PhD student will build upon preliminary work at QMUL and investigate the photophysics and photochemistry of perovskite single crystals to enable their scale up in the fibre’s space. They will also maximize on Dimitrov’s unique in-situ analysis equipment to reveal the mechanism of growth of the fibres.
