Postdoctoral and PhD Position in Neuroscience and Stem Cell
Postdoctoral researcher and PhD candidate positions are available in the laboratory of Dr. Ranjie Xu in the Department of Basic Medical Sciences at Purdue University, West Lafayette, to study neurodegenerative (Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia) and neurodevelopmental disorders (Autism).
The Xu laboratory investigates the molecular and cellular mechanisms of human brain development and pathogenesis of neurological disorders, focusing on human neurons, microglia, vasculatures, and their interactions using human-induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) models. We employ multidisciplinary approaches in our research, including stem cell reprogramming, molecular and cell biology, bulk and single-cell RNA-sequencing, patch-clamp recording, pharmacology, animal behavioral testing, and various imaging techniques. Our recent studies successfully generated an hiPSC-based disease modeling system, includingin vitro brain organoids and in vivo human-mouse chimeric brain models, to interrogate human neurons and microglia function in brain development and neurological disorders, and identified new therapeutic targets. Candidates for postdoctoral positions are expected to have completed or will complete a PhD and/or MD in the near future in biological sciences, neuroscience, stem cells, immunology, or a related field. Candidates who have expertise in one of the following areas are preferred but not requested, including molecular and cellular biology (such as CRISPR/Cas9), stem cell, electrophysiology, optogenetics, and bioinformatics. Candidates are also expected to have strong problem-solving, oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
