Postdoc Position in Cardiovascular Genomics and Regeneration (posted on May 2022)

An inaugural postdoc position is available in the lab of Dr. Miao Cui in Boston Children’s Hospital at Harvard Medical School to study genomic control mechanisms of heart regeneration and pathological remodeling. We will employ systems-level approaches, in vivo injury models, and mouse genetics to understand how cardiac cells respond to injury to regulate heart regeneration in neonates, a trait that is lost in mammalian adults, with the ultimate goal of targeting gene transcription for regenerative medicine.

Dr. Cui has a joint position as a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Department of Genetics at Harvard Medical School and the Department of Cardiology at Boston Children’s Hospital. The lab is located at the center of Harvard Longwood Medical Campus, immersed in a highly interactive and collaborative scientific environment. Dr. Cui obtained her Ph.D.from California Institute of Technology and Postdoctoral training at UT Southwestern. Her postdoctoral work discovered a novel population of regenerative cardiomyocytes and identified a stress adaptive mechanism required for heart regeneration. By studying single-cell transcriptome and epigenome, her study also established the critical role of transcriptional regulation during heart regeneration in multiple cardiac cell types. These studies led to several high-profile publications on Developmental Cell, Nature Communications, PNAS, and Cell Reports.

Prospective postdocs will have the opportunity to work on several highly innovative and promising research directions:

• Lineage relationship of regenerative cardiomyocytes

• Transcriptional regulation of cellular plasticity during heart regeneration and disease

• Immune response and heart regeneration

• Cross talk between transcription regulation and metabolism in cardiac development and regeneration

The ideal candidate must hold a Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree with an interest in Genomics and Cardiovascular Biology. Candidates should be able to work independently and have demonstrated English verbal and writing skills. Salary is commensurate with experience.
