90后女生Nature首发！破解全球造纸行业温室气体净零排放难题

夜深人静，复旦大学环境科学楼四楼的办公室灯火通明。一位年轻女生代敏，正在电脑前紧张处理数据，专注研究全球造纸行业温室气体排放问题。在导师王玉涛的默默支持下，她不畏艰辛，终于在2023年底成功将这一重要研究成果发表在顶级学术期刊Nature上，成为唯一第一作者。

经过数年的辛勤努力，代敏终于在Nature上发表了首篇关于全球造纸行业温室气体净零排放的研究文章。这篇论文首次从系统视角揭示了全球主要造纸生产与消费国家造纸行业温室气体排放特征，并提出了2050年不同国家实现该行业净零排放目标的差异化策略。

The pulp and paper industry is an important contributor to global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions1,2. Country-specific strategies are essential for the industry to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, given its vast heterogeneities across countries3,4. In this paper, we develop a comprehensive bottom-up assessment of net GHG emissions of the domestic paper-related sectors for 30 major countries from 1961 to 2019—about 3.2% of global anthropogenic GHG emissions from the same period5—and explore mitigation strategies through 2,160 scenarios covering key factors. Our results show significant differences across countries in terms of historical emissions evolution trends and structure. All countries can achieve net-zero emissions for their pulp and paper industry by 2050, with a single measure for most developed countries and multiple measures for most developing countries. Except for energy efficiency improvement and energy system decarbonization, tropical developing countries with abundant forest resources should prioritize sustainable forest management, while other developing countries should pay more attention to enhancing methane capture rate and reducing recycling. These insights are crucial for developing net-zero strategies tailored to each country and achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 for the pulp and paper industry.
