Orientation of the journal

The Editors of Kovove Materialy-Metallic Materials (abbreviated journal title Kovove Mater.) accept and publish only original theoretical and experimental papers concerned with the structure, properties and processing of metallic and selected non-metallic materials.

General consideration

The submission language is English (since October 2004). The submission of an article implies that the work described has not been published (except in the form of an abstract or as a part of a published lecture or academic thesis), that it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere, that its publication is approved by all authors and that, if accepted, it will be not published elsewhere in the same form in English or any other language, without the written consent of the Publisher.

Online submission

This service is designed to speed up the reviewing process and the publication of an article. The structure and rules for online submission are the same as those described for a submission of the article by post. For online submission, the article text, tables with headings and figures with captions need to be embedded in a single PDF file. During the reviewing process, the authors, reviewers and editors send and receive all correspondence by e-mail. The corresponding author will receive the final decision (revise, accept, reject) of the editor by e-mail, containing editorial comments.

abstract (75 - 150 words);

keywords (no more than 6);

introduction (including discussion of the state of the art and presentation of the main themes of the article);

main text (divided into sections, e.g. experiment, results, discussion, conclusion);

acknowledgements;

references.

The authors' affiliations with full postal addresses and e-mail address of the corresponding author should be given on the title page.

All publications cited in the text should be presented in a list of references in the form:

Reference to a book:

Tables with text headers and figures

Tables should be concise and numbered with Arabic numerals and should contain text headers. Tables and figures should not duplicate the same information. The figures will be reduced for publication and so the font and figure sizes should be proportional: e.g. - the smallest used font size (height) should be 3.5 mm for a 10 cm square figure(5 mm and 7 mm for 15 cm and 20 cm square figures respectively). The plots and diagrams should be framed, and the axes labelled by appropriate symbols and their dimensions, the latter in round brackets.

Figures should be printed on a laser printer with a minimum resolution of 600 dpi.Two copies of photomicrographs should be submitted on white paper with dimensions of either 6 cm x 6 cm or 6 cm (width) x 7.5 cm (height). Technically defective photographs will be refused. A scale (font size 12) on a white field should be placed in the bottom right hand corner of each photomicrograph. When a Figure contains more than 1 photograph, each should be labelled a, b, c… in the top right hand corner of the figures. White fields for the scale and labels should be placed 2.5 mm from the figure margins. Operating data of the microscope (magnification, voltage, etc.) should not be given in the figures.

Text layout

The article text should be typed with font size 12, on one side of the paper only (size A4), with double spacing and wide margins (at least 3 cm). The pages should be numbered. Tables with their headings should be presented in the manuscript, after the references. Each figure should be presented on a separate sheet of paper, numbered and supplied with the authors´ names. Its position in the text should be marked in pencil on the page margin. A list of the figure captions should be presented in the manuscript, after the tables. The SI system of units should be used in the article.

Electronic version of the article

The preferred program for electronic text processing is the Microsoft Word text editor in .doc format. MS Excel, CorelDraw or a bit map (photographs 300 dpi, other figures 600 dpi) are suitable formats for the figures. If the plots are produced in MS Excel, they should be submitted in .xls format. If other programs are used (e.g. Statistica, Sigma Plot), the plots should be inserted into MS Word and presented in .doc format. If the figures are in a graphics format (e.g. bmp, jpg, tiff), they should be presented in this format and not inserted into MS Word. Half-tone figures (grey shade) should be electronically processed and presented in one of the recommended graphics formats. The article text, tables with headings and figure captions should be included as one separate file, e.g. article.doc. Each figure should be presented as a separate file, e.g. Fig1.doc, Fig2.doc, Fig3.jpg.
