Guidelines for Authors of High Temperature

High Temperature publishes original and review articles.

Before submitting a manuscript of a review articles, the authors should first send an application for the review and its abstract (one page at the most) to the editorial office. A review must conform to the journal’s scope and provide analysis of the state of the art on one of the topical problems along with evaluations of individual studies, inferences, and recommendations. In a review, as distinct from original articles, the abstract must be followed by contents with section and subsection headings.

Manuscripts submitted to High Temperature must meet the following requirements.

1. Each author must fill in and sign the copyright transfer agreement.

2. The length of a manuscript should be: an original article, 17 pages; a short communication, 6 pages; and a review article, 48 pages. These include the list of references, tables, and figure captions.

3. The manuscript is presented in duplicate, computer printed on one side with 1.5–2 line spacing (28 lines per page, 64 characters per line) without corrections and insertions. Do not use abbreviations, except for standard ones.

4. Only formulas referred to in the text should be numbered.

5. The number of illustrations should not exceed ten for original articles and three for short communications. Photographs (glossy prints) are provided with captions penciled on the back side. Figures (single copies) and photographs (in duplicate) are to be appended separately to each copy of the manuscript. The size should be between 5 × 6 and 18 × 24 cm. Notation on figures should be consistent with figure captions and the main text.

6. Tables must have headings. Tables are typeset on separate pages and numbered by Arabic numerals in the order in which they are referred to in the text. The heading is written after the table number. All columns in a table have headings and are divided by vertical lines. Abbreviations are not permitted in tables. If there is only one table (with a heading) in the text, the word Table is omitted and the table is not numbered.

7. Authors should avoid repeating data presented in figures, tables, and in the main text.

8. The list of references should be at the end of the manuscript with items numbered in the order they appear in the text. In the main text, references should take the form of numerals in square brackets.

The list of references must have the following format.

Ethical Responsibilities of Authors

This journal is committed to upholding the integrity of the scientific record. As a member of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) the journal will follow the COPE guidelines on how to deal with potential acts of misconduct.

Authors should refrain from misrepresenting research results which could damage the trust in the journal, the professionalism of scientific authorship, and ultimately the entire scientific endeavour. Maintaining integrity of the research and its presentation is helped by following the rules of good scientific practice, which include*:

The manuscript should not be submitted to more than one journal for simultaneous consideration.

The submitted work should be original and should not have been published elsewhere in any form or language (partially or in full), unless the new work concerns an expansion of previous work. (Please provide transparency on the re-use of material to avoid the concerns about text-recycling (‘self-plagiarism’).

A single study should not be split up into several parts to increase the quantity of submissions and submitted to various journals or to one journal over time (i.e. ‘salami-slicing/publishing’).

Concurrent or secondary publication is sometimes justifiable, provided certain conditions are met. Examples include: translations or a manuscript that is intended for a different group of readers.

Results should be presented clearly, honestly, and without fabrication, falsification or inappropriate data manipulation (including image based manipulation). Authors should adhere to discipline-specific rules for acquiring, selecting and processing data.

No data, text, or theories by others are presented as if they were the author’s own (‘plagiarism’). Proper acknowledgements to other works must be given (this includes material that is closely copied (near verbatim), summarized and/or paraphrased), quotation marks (to indicate words taken from another source) are used for verbatim copying of material, and permissions secured for material that is copyrighted.
