How to prepare a manuscript for submission to the IEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques? Follow the checklists:

NEW MANUSCRIPT CHECKLIST

Manuscripts should be submitted through the Manuscript Central site. Manuscripts can only be submitted as .pdf file. The file must not be larger than 1MB and no *.zip file is accepted. Please do not send any manuscript via email, regular mail, or fax, as it will not be processed if you do.

* New * Multimedia materials can be submitted as supplementary files and will be published if the manuscript is accepted. See the section of “Preparing your graphics or multimedia materials” in Author Digital Tool Box for more information. Read Instructions for the Preparation of Multimedia Materials.

It is mandatory to use the IEEE template (the two-column template listed under “Templates for Transactions”). The font size is specified in the template. TeX and LaTeX users must use scalable fonts rather than bitmapped fonts to allow easy reading of .pdf files on the computer screen. The Author Digital Tool Box provides additional guidelines.

Selecting Manuscript Type: Choose ‘Original Manuscript’ for regular paper submission. Choose a special issue topic if your submission is for a specific special issue. Choose ‘Comment’ to submit corrections to your own published paper or comments on other authors’ published papers that you want to request corrections or clarifications. A comment proposing new analysis or technique based on a previously published paper should be submitted as a regular paper. As an example, a comment discussing the limitation of a previously published circuit analysis, describing a better approach, and acknowledging research sponsorship is a new research work and should be submitted as a regular paper.

The minimum paper length for a regular paper is 4 pages, excluding the authors’ photos and biographies. Short papers of three pages or less should be submitted to the IEEE MICROWAVE AND WIRELESS COMPONENTS LETTERS. The mandatory overlength page charge is applied to each page in excess of 7 pages: $185 per page for papers having at least one MTT-S member and $230 per page if no author is an MTT-S member. Note that there is an option of Open Access when submitting the manuscript. If Open Access is selected, an additional open-access fee of $1750 will be billed if the paper is accepted for publication. Please see the standard policy of IEEE Open Access.

You must reference your own work, especially recent journal/conference publications. Discuss your related publications in the introduction and distinguish the new results you present in your current manuscript from those found in your previous publications. While there is not a specific criteria that must be met, such as 60% new technical material, the reviewers are asked to determine if the paper provides “sufficient new technical material to justify a new paper” when compared to all previously published papers. This standard must be met by all papers, including papers that are submitted to conference special issues. Note that longer introductions and lists of references do not qualify as “technical material.” It is acceptable to repeat some results to properly explain the concept and to create a self-contained paper for the reader, but this should be done only when necessary. Please attach pdf files of the previous papers.

If you have sent a similar paper to the MTT Transactions (including special issues) previously you must inform us even if it is currently in review or was rejected. You must include the Manuscript number of the original submission in the Cover letter. If it was rejected, please follow the additional requirements for Revised/Resubmitted Manuscripts.

IEEE policy does not allow simultaneous submission of similar material to the Transactions and another journal or conference. If there are any issues with the policy please inform the editor.

Authorship and Plagiarism: See the Publication Policy.

Points of attention related to contents:

The Transactions generally requires that theory, measurements, and simulations be supported by careful comparisons. If, at the decision of the Editor, the component or circuit can be fabricated, measured characteristics must be included. All papers with theoretical contributions must have independent verification with measurement-based validation strongly preferred.

All papers describing a hybrid or monolithic RFIC should include a table that compares the circuit performance to the performance of circuits in the literature.

Authors should cite the most recent papers when comparing performance or characteristics of the circuit or technique to prior papers.

A photograph of any component or circuit presented must be included.

A photograph of the measurement set-up must be included in case of papers on measurement techniques.

The Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques will not publish papers that describe a single passive antenna or a passive array of antennas. Electronic systems or circuits that include an antenna may be submitted.

Points of attention related to figures:

Figures and graphs must be embedded in the manuscript, i.e., they should be placed at appropriate locations within the text. So do NOT group all figures at the end of the manuscript, NOR upload figures as separate files in this phase of the review.

Figures should be large enough to be easily readable on a computer screen and on paper when printed out. The fonts in figures should be comparable in size to those in the main text (10 pt.) Examples of acceptable and unacceptable figures can be found here.

igures should use a high enough resolution to be easily readable.

Axes should be labeled with large lettering.

On axes labels, the units should be placed within “( )”, not within “[ ]”.

You should include essential information in the caption. If the figure is repeated or is similar to figures that have appeared elsewhere, please add “From [X].”, “After [X].”, or “Data from [X].” to figure captions, as appropriate, where X refers to the prior publication.

Whenever possible, theory and corresponding experimental results should be printed on the same graph for easy comparison.

Instrument screen captures are not suitable for publication and the data should be replotted.

The print version of the paper will be in black and white, but color figures may be used in the electronic version of the paper. Color figures will be directly converted to grayscale for the print edition. As such pastel colors (lime, yellow, etc.) should be avoided.

Points of attention related to style and format:

IEEE has put together guidelines regarding editorial styles, mathematical equations, and references, please check the webpage here. It is very important to follow the IEEE editorial style in all aspects of your submission. Your paper will be REJECTED IMMEDIATELY without review if the IEEE style is not adhered.

Read the IEEE Editorial Style Manual and follow the guidelines.

Please list the full names of authors on the first page.

Please check the style of citing references in text and that all references are complete and in correct format (please refer to the IEEE Reference Guide). In particular, check the authors’ names and publication titles. Check the spelling of every author’s name. Do not swap the first name and last name of any author. IEEE publications must list names of all authors, up to six names. If there are more than six names listed, use et al. after the first author. For non-IEEE publications, et al. may be used if names are not provided. The title of references shall be in abbreviation format, e.g., “IEEE Trans. Microw. Theory Techn.” representing “IEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques”. For the abbreviations of IEEE publications, please check Journal Titles and Abbreviations or Magazine Titles and Abbreviations as appropriate. For conferences and books, please refer to the IEEE Reference Guide.
