Archaeological and Anthropological Sciences

Submission guidelines

Instructions for Authors

Types of Articles

The journal publishes Original Papers, Reviews and Brief Reports.

Brief Reports should not exceed 3000 words and should include a maximum of 3 tables and/or figures.

Guidelines for Topical Collections

Archaeological and Anthropological Sciences welcomes Topical Collections dealing with topics falling within the aims and scopes of the Journal.

Proposers are asked that the topics are of interest and relevance to the Journal's international and multidisciplinary audience. The submitted articles are also required to meet the quality and significance standards of regular issues.

There is no set number of articles in a TC although 8 should be considered as the baseline.

Preparing the proposal

The proposal should contain the following information:

A summary of the topics covered by the proposed TC

Short CVs, affiliations and addresses of the Guest Editors

List of contributions including authors, affiliations and extended abstracts

Tentative time schedule, specifying the estimated times for submission, revision and publication

If several guest editors are involved in a Topical Collection, one Guest Editor will act as the corresponding Editor.

The corresponding Editor submits the proposal to Samuel Goodchild (samuel.goodchild@springer.com) for approval. The opinion will be then expressed jointly by the Editors-in-Chief and communicated to the proposer in a timely manner.

If approved, an Editor-in-Chief will be appointed to supervise the Topical Collection and held possible conflicts of interest.

Submission and peer-review procedures

Authors must submit their papers via the online Editorial Manager System.

Guest Editors are required to oversee the peer review process. In detail, Guest Editors should ensure that all articles submitted conform to the editorial and publication policies of AASc. Each manuscript submitted must be original, not published formally elsewhere, and must be peer reviewed by at least two specialists in the field.

Once the Guest Editors have recommended to accept or reject a paper, the final decision will rest with the EditorinChief.

Publication

Once the papers have been accepted by the Editor, they are then transmitted to the Production Department. Proofs will be available online for the Guest Editors to review and approve before Online publication.

When the Topical Collection appears online, the names of the Guest Editors will be displayed on the Topical Collections page of the Journal website.

Manuscript Submission

Submission of a manuscript implies: that the work described has not been published before; that it is not under consideration for publication anywhere else; that its publication has been approved by all co-authors, if any, as well as by the responsible authorities – tacitly or explicitly – at the institute where the work has been carried out. The publisher will not be held legally responsible should there be any claims for compensation.

Permissions

Authors wishing to include figures, tables, or text passages that have already been published elsewhere are required to obtain permission from the copyright owner(s) for both the print and online format and to include evidence that such permission has been granted when submitting their papers. Any material received without such evidence will be assumed to originate from the authors.

Online Submission

Please follow the hyperlink “Submit manuscript” on the right and upload all of your manuscript files following the instructions given on the screen.

Please ensure you provide all relevant editable source files. Failing to submit these source files might cause unnecessary delays in the review and production process.

Title Page

Please make sure your title page contains the following information.

Title

The title should be concise and informative.

Author information

The name(s) of the author(s)

The affiliation(s) of the author(s), i.e. institution, (department), city, (state), country

A clear indication and an active e-mail address of the corresponding author

If available, the 16-digit ORCID of the author(s)

If address information is provided with the affiliation(s) it will also be published.

For authors that are (temporarily) unaffiliated we will only capture their city and country of residence, not their e-mail address unless specifically requested.
