INFORMATION FOR AUTHORS
IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON APPLIED SUPERCONDUCTIVITY is published bi-monthly. This journal will publish technical papers on the science and technology of superconductors and their applications. Papers on materials will be those directed toward applications so that their contents will be of greatest interest to the applications community. They should be concerned with such matters as limiting current densities, microwave surface resistance, noise properties, and magnetic-field dependences. The electronics applications will include both analog and digital circuits and systems. Power applications will include magnet design for energy storage or magnetic levitation, new developments in superconductive motors and generators, and power transmission lines.
This TRANSACTIONS will also include a Technical Notes section dedicated to the publication of short correspondence whose rapid publication is considered important to the development of the field.
A. Length
Regular papers should be 7 to 14 double-spaced typewritten pages in length, plus up to 10 pages of full-scale figures.
Technical Notes should be 6 or fewer double-spaced typewritten pages, plus not more than 3 pages of full-scale figures.
B. Style for Manuscript
1) The manuscript should be typewritten using double or 1.5 line
2) Provide a carefully worded abstract from 100 to 200 words for papersand less than 50 words for technical notes. Name, address, and telephone number of author(s) should appear with the abstract.
3) Suggestions on organization of a paper, recommended abbreviations, etc. are available at the Tools for Authors website at the following URL: http://www.ieee.org/organizations/pubs/transactions/information.htm.
4) Authors should ensure correct English before submitting a manuscript to avoid excessive burden on the reviewers.
5) References should appear in a separate bibliography at the end of the paper. References should be complete and in IEEE style.
Style for papers: Author (with initials first), title, journal title, volume number, inclusive pages numbers, month, year.
Style for books: Author, title. Location: Publisher, year, page or chapter number (if desired).
6) Figure captions should be on a separate sheet in paper style for typesetting.
7) Authors should use SI(MKS) or CGS systems of units.
8) If a manuscript is accepted for publication, the author will be required to upload electronic files to ScholarOne. Detailed instructions will be included with the notification of manuscript acceptance. Hardcopies will not be required.
9) Departures from the above style may delay publication.
C. Style for Illustrations
1) Originals of drawings and glossy print photographs should be sharp and of good contrast. Line drawings should be in India ink on a white background. Use 8.5 11 inch (U.S.) or A4 (metric) sized sheets to simplify handling of the manuscript. Template lettering is recommended; typing on figures is not acceptable. Lettering should be large enough to permit legible reduction of the figure to column width, perhaps as much as 4:1.
2) Identify each illustration on the back or at the bottom with the figure number and names of author(s). Indicate the top of a photograph. Captions lettered on figures will be blocked out in reproduction in favor of typeset captions.
3) Graphics prepared by computer must be of high quality.
4) For information on submitting electronic graphics, please visit the URL: http://www.ieee.org/web/publications/authors/transjnl/index.html and click on the link “Guidelines for Author Supplied Electronic Text and Graphics.”
D. Submission
Manuscript submissions are only accepted electronically through ScholarOne: http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/tas-ieee. Be prepared to provide originals of figures and author biographies quickly after the review is complete.
E. Page Charges
After a manuscript has been accepted for publication, the author’s company or institution will be requested to pay a charge of $110 per printed page to cover part of the cost of publication. Page charges for this TRANSACTIONS are not obligatory nor is their payment a prerequisite for publication; however, the authors should strongly encourage their employers, or institutions, to honor this payment in order to offset some of the expenses incurred in the publication of his work. The author will receive 100 free reprints without covers if the charge is honored. Detailed instructions will accompany the page proofs.
F. Open Access
This publication is a hybrid journal, allowing either Traditional manuscript submission or Open Access (author-pays OA) manuscript submission. Upon submission, if you choose to have your manuscript be an Open Access article, you commit to pay the discounted $1,750 OA fee if your manuscript is accepted for publication in order to enable unrestricted public access. Any other application charges (such as over- length page charge and/or charge for the use of color in the print format) will be billed separately once the manuscript formatting is complete but prior to the publication. If you would like your manuscript to be a Traditional submission, your article will be available to qualified subscribers and purchasers via IEEE Xplore. No OA payment is required for Traditional submission.
G. Copyright
It is the policy of the IEEE to own the copyright to the technical contributions it publishes on behalf of the interests of the IEEE, its authors, and their employers, and to facilitate the appropriate reuse of this material by others. To comply with the U.S. Copyright Law, authors are required to sign an IEEE copyright transfer form (http://www.ieee.org/publications_standards/publications/rights/copyright_form.html) before publication.
This form returns to authors and their employers full rights to reuse their material for their own purposes. Authors must submit a signed copy of this form with their manuscripts.
