Information for Authors

Authors should submit their papers using Manuscript Central at http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/awpl.

The IEEE Author Center is a standalone site for journal authors that provides a one-stop shop to learn about publishing with IEEE.  This comprehensive source of up-to-date content is written from the author’s perspective in simple, engaging language and is easily viewed in mobile.  The content is organized to follow the author’s path through the publishing process, from writing the article through to post-publication.

Authors must submit manuscripts that conform to the IEEE approved styles (either Word or LaTex). Specifically, authors must submit their manuscripts in the double-column IEEE format typical of most Transactions, Journals, and Letters published by IEEE. Authors should ensure that submitted manuscripts fit into 4 pages (excluding reference page) and graphics are of acceptable quality.

Since March 2018, references are excluded from the page count.

1) The technical content is still limited to 4 pages. This limit will be strictly enforced to keep the letters concise and to the point, in the original spirit of AWPL.

2) It is now acceptable that the reference list and the acknowledgements extend to a 5th page. This will provide sufficient space for thorough referencing without competing with technical content.

3) The authors will not be charged for the last page of their article if it contains only references.

Please download the style files (Word or LaTeX) here:

IEEE Style Files (Word or LaTeX)

Please select the template for full papers in the Transactions, without biographies. The latest template can be found under "Templates for Transactions".

If in doubt about the format, or you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at awpl@ieeeaps.org.

Important: The authors are advised not to modify the template. If the template is modified to fit more content within the page limit, issues may arise at production time.

If an accepted manuscript goes over the page limit and needs to be shortened at production time, acceptance may be revoked and the shortened manuscript might have to be re-sent to review.

The technical content of the manuscripts is strictly limited to 4 pages, with references and acknolwedgements extending on the 5th page if needed.

Peer Review

The articles in this journal are peer reviewed in accordance with the requirements set forth in the IEEE Publication Services and Products Board Operations Manual (https://pspb.ieee.org/images/files/files/opsmanual.pdf). Each published article was reviewed by a minimum of two independent reviewers using a single-blind peer review process, where the identities of the reviewers are not known to the authors, but the reviewers know the identities of the authors. Articles will be screened for plagiarism before acceptance.

English Language Editing Services

English language editing services can help refine the language of your article and reduce the risk of rejection without review. IEEE authors are eligible for discounts at several language editing services; visit the IEEE Author Center to learn more. Please note these services are fee-based and do not guarantee acceptance.

IEEE supports the publication of author names in the native language alongside the English versions of the names in the author list of an article. Authors must provide the native language name in Unicode characters in the files they submit for publication, to be displayed in the byline of the article, after the English version of the name. For more information, please visit the related page on the IEEE Author Center, or see the "Instructions and Forms" section of the ScholarOne Manuscript Central website.

To enhance the appearance of your article on IEEEXplore®, a graphical abstract can be displayed along with traditional text. The graphical abstract should provide a clear, visual summary of your article’s findings by means of an image, animation, video, or audio clip.

NOTE: The graphical abstract is considered a part of the technical content of the article, and you must provide it for peer review during the article submission process.

For more information about graphical abstracts and their specifications, please see the Graphical Abstract Description and Specifications document.

IEEE DataPort

Supplementary datasets can be now uploaded to IEEE Dataport. The datasets can be in any format (e.g. simulation files, visualization, scripts, experimental data, ...) and receive a unique DOI. If the DOI of the dataset is provided during a manuscript submission to AWPL, the dataset and the article will be linked in IEEE Xplore.

(Please note that the datasets on IEEE Dataport are not reviewed, and that feedback is provided through user comments.)

Corresponding author information

IEEE Publications explicitly state the corresponding author on the first page of all journal articles. While this information is generally included by IEEE Staff, based on the information provided in the Manuscript Central submission process, should you wish to include it yourself in your submitted paper (for example, to estimate the number of pages accurately), please ensure it is accurate and matches the information provided in Manuscript Central.

The responsibilities of the corresponding author according the IEEE Publication Services and Products Board Operations Manual are as follows:

In the case of articles with multiple authors, a single“corresponding” author must be designated as having responsibility for overseeing the publication process and ensuring the integrity of the final document.

The corresponding author accepts the responsibility for:

Including as co-authors all persons appropriate and none inappropriate;

Obtaining from all co-authors their assent to be designated as such, as well as their approval of the final version of the article as accepted for publication; and

Keeping all co-authors apprised of the current status of an article submitted for publication, including furnishing all co-authors with copies of the reviewers’ comments and a copy of the published version, as appropriate.

At this time, IEEE AWPL ony accepts only one corresponding author as single point of contact for each manuscript.

ORCID

All IEEE journals require an Open Researcher and Contributor ID (ORCID) for all authors. ORCIDs enable accurate attribution and improved discoverability of an author’s published work. The author need a registered ORCID in order to submit a manuscript or review a proof in this journal.

Follow these steps to link a ScholarOne account to a registered ORCID:

Login to ScholarOne and click on your name in the top right corner of the screen.

Click "E-mail / Name" in the dropdown menu.

In the ORCID section at the top of the page, click the appropriate link to either register for a new ORCID or associate the account with an existing ORCID.

A new page will open to create and/or validate your ORCID. Once the validation is complete, the new page will close and you will return to ScholarOne.

Save the changes to your ScholarOne user account.

Authors who do not have an ORCID in their ScholarOne user account are prompted to provide one during submission.

Open Access and Page Charges

This publication is a hybrid journal, allowing either Traditional manuscript submission or Open Access (author-pays OA) manuscript submission. Upon submission, if you choose to have your manuscript be an Open Access article, you commit to pay the discounted $2,045 OA fee if your manuscript is accepted for publication in order to enable unrestricted public access. Any other application charges (such as over-length page charge and/or charge for the use of color in the print format) will be billed separately once the manuscript formatting is complete but prior to the publication. If you would like your manuscript to be a Traditional submission, your article will be available to qualified subscribers and purchasers via IEEE Xplore. No OA payment is required for Traditional submission; charges are only made for excess pages above the stated limit for a paper type and for prints using color.

In either case, when authors receive their proofs for an accepted paper, they are provided with a unique link to a site that contains the breakdown of charges and fields where they can enter payment information details.

Page charges are computed as follows:

(Overlength page charges since 2019)

Voluntary page charges for the first (1) journal page of a manuscript (at US$110.00 per page);

Mandatory page charges for pages in excess of one (1) page (at US$100.00 per page).

A last page containing only references does not attract page charges.

The mandatory page charge fee must be paid. If this is not possible, the paper must be reduced to fit within the allowed number of journal pages free of mandatory charges, as indicated above.

Corresponding authors from low-income countries are eligible for waived or reduced open access APCs.

Piergiorgio L.E. Uslenghi Prize paper award for the best paper published in AWPL

The Piergiorgio L. E. Uslenghi Prize Paper Award was established for papers in the Antennas and Wireless Propagation Letters in the name of its originator and first editor-in-chief, Piergiorgio L. E. Uslenghi. Candidate papers are judged on the basis of original technical contribution, style and presentation. The award will consist of an appropriately worded certificate and an honorarium set by the AdCom. A certificate will be awarded to each of the authors and the honorarium will be divided between the authors. The purpose of the award is to stimulate the submission of high-quality papers, both basic and applied, for publication in AWPL.

An AP-S Awards committee, under the Society Awards and Fellows Committee, is responsible for awarding this prize. This committee may select papers for recognition and the corresponding award. Society members may submit nominations for the paper awards; a period of 60 days from the publication date of the AWPL edition of that year will be allowed for the nominations to be received. All papers published in AWPL during a calendar year are eligible for the award in the following year, except those authored by members of the Society Awards Committee at the time the papers are reviewed. The Committee's decision on the selections will be final. The President or the Chair of the Awards and Fellows Committee will notify the recipients of the awards. The presentation of the awards will be made at the awards banquet of the annual symposium.
